Anyone know about Strat serial #s ?

Prior to wrapping up a trade deal for an American standard Strat, I thought I should check out the serial number. The seller claims it's from 1988. All the web sites I've looked at don't give me any clues on this one.

    EE 101981

Thanks if you can shed any light.

I went to Gary's website (here) & couldn't find anything, either. Check the heel of the neck?

"Remarks: The interesting thing about this guitar is the serial number. Only a few guitars with the "EE" serial number prefix were made from after the CBS sale (1985) to 1988. Specs are like the other American Standards. This one has an alder body."

    Thanks Guys !

It seems that 1988 was the only year to have a 2 letter prefix.
