You can find a 60's Classic Tele used for $400 easy.
Now that Fender has lowered prices on all artist series a new MW Tele could be purchased for around $475 at a 40% discount or $550 at a 30% discount like MF usually gives.
I would look for a MIJ '62 reissue.

For whatever reason, that could be one of the best Tele's I've ever played.
60's classic used is good. I saw one the other day.
