Assuming the speaker impedance load is properly matched to eight ohms, the concept is sound. I once drew up plans for such a combo conversion and it is eminently feasible. The finished cabinet would've resembled a Super Reverb.

Sounds heavy to me. I'd not want to lugging that around. Roadies would have something to say about it.

2x10 does sound a bit more feasible, but I would love just to hear a 4x10 Deluxe
Maybe a AA/AB763 Bandmaster head with a 4x10 cab would be better?

I would think the cabinet and speakers alone would be worth close to $500. I can't tell for sure from the photos, but it looks like the speakers might be wired series/parallel, which would give an 8 ohm impedance if the speakers are 8 ohm (can't tell that either from the photos).

I'd guess they'd be around 70 years old if the EIA codes are correct. No way of course to know if the coils/cones are original. i wouldn't write them off out of hand though -- they might sound marvelous. Many off these drivers were installed in up-scale consoles from National Radio, Philco, Magnavox, etc and were generally state of the art for their time.

Aaaaand it's gone. The seller dropped it down by $20 (to $480) this morning. I did not buy it.
I think you missed an opportunity Rob, but I have more money than sense.
I tried to buy a Fender Bassman-10 from a guy in Thibodaux, Louisiana, but he is now "away" on Reverb. I offered to meet him halfway from Houston and pay his gas money and a seafood lunch, but no response.

Something else will come around, I'm sure of it.
