So, I got a gig next Friday night...

...and since we'll be playing some heavy stuff, I'm bringing Jackie this time.

Let's hear how she growls and bites the audience...

Pics and impressions will be shared.

how does that roasted maple feel compared to a rosewood fingerboard? Is it raw or finished?

It's raw, and feels more like rosewood than typical finished maple boards.

But maple isn't as porous as Rosewood, so it feels a tad finer in touch. I'd say if you closed your eyes and played for a bit, it'd remind you of ebony.

Some from the 2012 era have laminate--not sure what my 2012 LP Trad has, but it's got one of the best feeling necks and fbs that I've played.

    Dirty deed done.

My SG isn't a virgin anymore.

We played a small gig in another of the old buildings I love so much. A few shots of the place, it was built in the late 1920s

Yeah, I love to rock this kind of place. So, did I understand correctly? Your Les Paul Trad has a baked maple board too?

I'm not sure whether it's baked maple or laminate. Either way it's an extremely smooth fretboard. It seems a little darker than yours. Does it mean mine has laminate?

I have no knowledge of Gibson using any kind of maple laminate, only rosewood.

Your guitar is a 2012, and they were using maple that year... Which is perfectly ok, since Maple is a great tonewood. Post a pic and we'll be sure, yes?

It could be baked maple. Just not sure.

that is definitely rosewood. The whole laminate thing was overblown. There was no reason Gibson had to do it, nobody knows why they did. The purists basically had a conniption and the sales were in the tank. Frankly I doubt if 1 out of a 1000 guitarists could even tell blindfolded if they were playing a laminate or one piece rosewood fingerboard.

Dan, you're right. I couldn't give two shits whether it's rosewood, laminate, or tile flooring. It plays and sounds great.
