    DIY Cabinet (..yet another one!)

Hi All... Here are some pics of a recently completed extension cabinet I made. It's based on the mesa boogie widebody, ported, closed back to go along with the Express 5:50 I have.

As with other projects, it was more for the fun of the build, and I did have the speaker already so expense was minimal.

I used original taurus tolex, and the 'cane' grill, corners, feet, handle etc., and had some fun making the badge - with a lump of plasticine/modelling clay and some epoxy resin!

Sounds, as you would expect with the closed back, nice and marshally!

    Cheers!

Basic box, with port and speaker. (Dado joint for baffle, butt joints everywhere else!)

    Internal showing Port

    Spray

    Grill Frame

Tolexed, and with some damping filler

    The mould of the badge

    After 48hrs...

Sprayed black and with some silver paint...

    Finished

    In situ.

Thanks Guys... I know the badge was a bit of a nerdy, though I had tried to buy one, but seems they're hard to come by (the original is metal). The resin worked well, just a bit slow to harden, and nice to know it works if I need to 'duplicate' anything in future! :)

Casting resin parts is a perfectly legitimate method for this type of work -- I've used the technique many times in my scale-modeling endeavors. I think your logo turned out swell!

What type of clay and plastic resin did you use? Is that stuff from a kit?

I see the Ryobi 18V drill in there too...lol. I bought one of those $500 Dewalt kits for my last job, with the saw, flashlight, screw gun etc. It all got stolen in about a month. I replaced it all with Ryobi and got ribbed by coworkers for my "cheap crappy" drill guns for a while but 6 years later...they're all still going strong, and batteries are half the price of Dewalt!!

Just regular kids plasticine/modelling clay (not playdough, but the oil based stuff) for the mould... and for the resin, a product called Gedeo Clear resin. It's a two part, epoxy resin/hardener that you mix, and let set... The kids made some of their own moulds so fun for the whole family!

I actually had to buy that drill just after I started this. It's fine for my needs, and came with a second battery... I'm not a heavy DIYer, and had a black and decker 18v one that I had, for what ever reason the motor just started to burn out. Smelly..
