I did a quick Teisco Google and the Kimberly phtot they showed
    http://www.teiscotwangers.com/hollow-1.htm (far right)
was a hollowbody. So count me back in on being impressed by your coaxing a jazzable tone from her.
I think Kim's looks are what's really troubling your teacher.

Ry uses a slightly different variety of those p'ups through all manner of funky tube amps and ham radio looking outboard gear.

    Re: Yamaha G50-112 I

Well I thought between 1968 and 1972 because of this pict below.
Kim has the floral design painted on the back of the Plexiglas pick guard which is actually perfectly clear and is only black because it is painted so on the reverse over the silk screened floral pattern. i think it is a neat idea really. The other thing i dated it with was is the head stock shape, which is a fender one off.

But I could be off because Teisco made allot of guitars and I can't seem to find much information about it's (more scarce?) Kimberly/Apollo brand.
I do know that Apollo was basicly a more expensive Kimberly. Aparently a delux verson of the other teisco i might want one day, the May Queen was avalible as the Apollo May Queen and had two mini humbuckers on it.

Here is a pict of the Kim version of the may queen

I guess she don't look to jazzy, but now that you mention the 68 Kimberly Michelle, I might pick one up should i have the cash and should i ever see one and if it is worth the money. i could have a Kim family reunion. till then, i'll see about a ibanez. It's always good to have verity of tones to select from right?

Hey that Ry Cooder guy alsways comes up when metioning these pups or teisco... I bet he sounds interesting.

He sounds nothing like what you shooting for, but you can check out briefs sample of his stuff here.
    http://www.mp3.com/ry-cooder/artists...scography.html

A lot of his bst work build slowly, so you won't neccesarily hear the meat of it. Also his session/sideman work isn't listed there.

Discs I'd recommend would be the Crossroads soundtrack, Mambo Sinuendo, Chicken Skin Music and the John Hiatt album Bring The Family. One of more out there film scores was Tresspass. There's phtot of the instrument he called the "roomslide," I believe, in the CD booklet. That's really going astray from Teisco matters.
He's definitely a player to check out though.

Hmmn... I wonder how old mine is then. I was thinking it was like circa-1986, but maybe it's older than I thought.

Based on no hard data, just having seen them around back in the day, I was thinking earlt yo mid-80's.

    That's my guess.

Ditto on that, I got my Fifty112 for $100 (shipping included) from ebay. It seems like quite a bargain!

Okay, recognizing that I did this in one take and that it's past my bedtime (and therefore my playing was b-a-d bad), here's a little demo of my AS-73 into my G100-112. :)

    Riddim Changes

Guitar straight into amp, miked with AKG C-4000 into ProTools, verb on the amp, no EQ on the guitar track, Bomb Factory compressor on the mix for a slight nudge.

    Re: Yamaha G50-112 I

Well that is certainly better then what i can do, in fact i can't hear anything wrong because i don't know enough about jazz to tell. They are still teaching me jazz rhythm playing and i can bearly keep up with the chord changes. So i'd be happy to be able to play like that for now.

Unfamiliar chords changing once a beat, yeah that's a far cry from the stuff I played in my home churches music group (the only other time i've played rhythm). I'll get it one day, but anyhow the clips on this page were made to demonstrate tone not necessarily playing ability.

And i think now i definitely want to try and get a AM73 when i get a job. What does it sound like when it isn't used for jazz?

    Hi Jonnda,

I don't know about the AM-73, but my AS-73 is basically the same as a Gibson ES-335. Like 335s, it's a very versatile guitar. Good blues guitar as well as getting good jazz sounds.

from what i can tell the AM and the AS are the same except for some minor body shape differences and finish luxuries. For example, the AS-73 has the option of sunburst and probably better hardware.

    Re: Yamaha G50-112 I

Thanks for the kind words guys. It was pretty late, and I didn't really realize that I hadn't played the head of "Anthropology" in like 8 years until about three bars in. :lol I probably should've used "The Flintstones" instead. ;)

Anyway, like Jonnda said of his, it was more for the tone demonstration. :)

I agree with JAM totally. Aside from Jazz applications, the AS-73 does just about everything a 335 can do--bluesy 'Lucille' licks to funky Larry Carlton stuff. :yay

    Re: Yamaha G50-112 I

Okay, indulge me one more time. Just to show you the reason I bought this amp, here it is in my stereo rig. This is my alder Tele with Fralin Blues pickups. The clean stuff is the neck pickup, the dirty stuff is the bridge. After the first 8 bars or so I step on the Boss DD-3 and leave it on throughout. At the bridge I turn on the Boss CE-5 and then it stays on. The solo uses the Fulltone FD2.

Left channel Fender Blues Dlx (SM57), right channel Yamaha G100-112 (AKG C-4000). ProTools, verb on guitar track in the mix, slight comp and EQ in the mix.

    Stereo Stern

This is a John Pattitucci/Mike Stern creation from a play-along CD they did. John on bass (and keyboards I think) and Dave "God" Weckl on drums.

    Nice sound and playing pc.

It's funny you should mention John Pattituci. When I was a student at Long Beach state John played bass with the same band that I used my Yamaha G50-112 (one of the schools stage bands, about 1977). He was awesome back then too.

Maybe I should change my avatar to my Strat!

Pardon my ignorance, but what's a flipped plate? Man I feel like such a rookie in here.

And BTW nice clip there PC.

I'm surprised I can't tell to much of a difference between the two very different amps when I "a b" the left and right channel.

    Jonnda,

See the plate where the volume, tone and pickup selector mount? pc has his 'flipped' with the volume control toward the neck, mine's stock with the switch in that position.

I do see the HB quite readily, and now that you point it out, I see the flipped plate.
But when they're both in the same thread, such details don't neccesarily leap to the fore.

If you take a look at my avatar, you might see that avatar subtleties are, perhaps, not my strong suit at the moment :lol .

I know this thread has left it's origin, but I saw the header and had to comment.....

I have owned two of the Yamaha G series amps, the 50 watt G-50112 and the 100 watt G100-212.They were both great amps, and I could get a wonderful tone out of them. The only thing is that you have to work the parametric EQ to keep the bottom from getting farty and the mids from sounding cardboardy.I first heard them with Phil Keaggy, and I thought he had a tube amp. They also seemed to work wonderfully with pedals.

    Kap'n wrote: (re:Teisco pups)
I knew several folks who had those back in the day. They played 'em through crap amps, and thought the guitars sounded bad. Ry Cooder swears by those pickups.

I have a small collection of Teisco pups, including three TG-64 models. They do have a good sound, and the ones that came on the Tulip models (110?) sound fantastic. On my soundclick page I did a short sloppy jam with a Teisco.

    Re: Yamaha G50-112 I

this just in, the g50 has a good sound though the distortion channel after all. One simply has to put it on 1 and no higher then 2, three is pushing it depending on the guitar. at those low levels it sounds like a tube amp clean channel being slightly overdriven, very dynamic.

It ended up that i put bass and mids to 10 and treble to 3, and it sounds great.

    Enjoy!

    Hi,
I am looking for three potentiometers for mounting on a PCB application.
They have the push - pull capability for use in a Yamaha G50-112ii guitar
amp. The values are M25K A. The shaft dimesnions are 6mm in diameter x 15mm
long. The measurement of the solder pins are 1mm with a spacing of 5mm from
the center of each of the 3 pins. Mouser Electronics has your product but
only in 10K or 50K values. I need 25K only. Their part number is
313-1600F50K. If you have a source that I could buy these parts, please
email the contact information.I've attached some pics of the POT.
    Thank you
    Dave
