Jazz bass pickup

Got the chance to try out two of my jazz basses through a concert rig for the first time last week, in the spring of this year i fitted new pickups to them. Intresting results the first bass is a seventys style rosewood neck with ashtrys on, fitted a pair of lindy fralin handwounds. Very bright sounding with a fairly good harmonic content, would make an excellent funk set for marcus miller type stuff. The second is a custom twin neck built for me 33 years ago, this now sports a set of old dimarzio ultra jazz pickups changed from some antorias she came with. I was never that impressed with the old cream colour pickups for bass that dimarzio produced to keep pace with their super distortions. That said these units are a revelation to me they are the gutsiest set of pickups i have ever owned, lots of low end rumble without the mudd. Also they are not short of a bit of midrange growl, not as much as a sixtys fender pickup but with more depth. As i said these are the older issues with the logo written on another part of the cover so i cant comment on the new ultra jazz pickups.
