Re: Cheap pedals - any good?

i like what the O S is doing with my bass, but still can't make a good statement until I play this weekend, in a real room in a real mix.

    then....I will follow up -

So far - so good, it sounds good but I can't make any real disctiction comments yet.

With the "Bucket Brigade" chip, you can make this thing feedback on it's self. Fun little pedal. Arion came out later with a SAD-3 delay but it is nothing like the original. The Danelectro BLT slap echo is another great cheap pedal.
    Yup.
I have an SAD-1. That "Infinite" setting is a fun gimmick-kind of like a primitive Moog synth if you twiddle the knobs just right!

Check out the Dano Cool Cat pedals. From what I have gathered from other forums, the Transparent Overdrive is a clone of the Timmy, the Drive is a clone of the OCD and the Fuzz is a clone of the Frantone Peach Fuzz. I've seen side by side comparisons of the TO with the Timmy on youtube too. I'm still waiting for a TO that I ordered as it seemed to have all disappeared from the stores around here.

Re: Cheap pedals - any good?

If anyone got one of the freq boost or orange squash pedals and doesn't want it, I need a back up for my treble booster which has an intermittent problem with the switch. I fried my orange comp too, but didn't really use it much. I liked it as a dirty/squishy boost.

    Thanks!!

It should be noted that treble boost pedals work best with loud tube amps. It does add grit, but the way it colors your sound is great!

    I love BBE stuff.

I jumped on the Orange Squash deal.

The Boss SD-1, Dano FAB Distortion, Dano Fab Echo and the DOD Milk Box are good cheapos.

Well, I didn't get it for $30, but I found a new one on Amazon for $40. That'll just have to do!

Also got a Sonic Stomp for $55. All the reviews I read on it sounded too good to pass up. There's a particular tone I'm looking for on a lead for one of my tunes and I think the combination will get me pretty close... we'll see!

The sonic stomp is a nice pedal and that is a good price.

I use the two of those now on my bass......and it seems to be "good" at least to me.

Just got the Dano Cool Cat Drive. This thing is unbelievably good for what I paid for it. Is it like my OCD V1? Not exactly but close. It is true-bypass, doesn't make noise, not unless you put the gain all the way up, it responds to the guitar volume like most good boutique pedals do, the overdrive reminds me of the Boss BD-2 but even better. Best $25.00 I've spent on a pedal.

Let us know how, or if, you like the Sonic Stomp.

It's an always-on subtle pedal. Put it at the end of your effects chain, right before the amp.

Re: Cheap pedals - any good?

The Sonic Stomp lasted ONE day on my board (and I'm a tone FREAK). Just didn't do enough to justify the space/weight. The little Maxon CP101 photo-comp OTOH has been there, always on, for two years and counting...

Nope turned it around in a hurry. It wasn't bad, it just didn't add enough for me. Of course, some amps need/like certain pedals and vice versa. E.g., I would never put a compressor on a tweedy amp, but OTOH won't play a BF without my photo-comp. It may have just been that my particular amps didn't need the S-stomp that much. Plus, I've got this weird arbitrary self-imposed limit on how much space/weight I'll let pedals use and I fell in love with a gritty boost and needed that space... :-)

Re: Cheap pedals - any good?

I was skeptical about the Sonic Stomp. What BBE says it does is allows you to slightly delay bass frequencies and tweak the amount of delay. This is to compensate for something bad that's your amp is doing to your sound.

The theory is, if the bass frequencies hit the speaker before the treble, the sound is muddy.

The HRDX really needed to Sonic Stomp. I have tried it with many other amps, with varying degrees of success.

Well, the Big Brown Truck delivered my Sonic Stomp today, so I'll be playing with it tonight. I heard from the other vendor and my Orange Squash was shipped on Friday. I hope I get it before my trip to San Diego on Thursday!

Theres a couple cheapo pedals I like . One is the DS-1, with gain set to 0, as a clean boost. Another is the DOD YJM overdrive. I dont like the Bad Monkey.;lacks soul.
