    Getting maple neck really clean

    Hello,

I've got a G&L ASAT classic that is my only maple fret board guitar.
I condition my rosewoods with lemon oil or the like and I like the slight slickness to it, even after giving it a good wiping up.

I comment on that because my intention was to get me maple board as smooth feeling by using guitar polish on it, but now it seems to feel sticky. It's the first time this has happen and I've done this before, so I'm thinking that it might be a build up causing it.

Any suggestions on the best way to remove old polish?
I've been using the stuff in the fender care kit.

    Thanks,

    - HR

Naptha will remove wax and polish residue without hurting a poly finish (you can use it clean bare wood with no ill effects).

If it's not safe for other finishes for some reasons, I'm sure someone will chime in.

Cool, I've heard of it but I'm not familiar with it, hardware store stock?

    Thanks,

    - edit: after doing some googling I see it was used quite a bit in days gone by.
Seems like that's what gave the zippo lighters that particular scent?
Interesting, a guy added moth balls to it and used it for gasoline in his car. Go figure...

Naptha has been known to hurt guitar finishes on occaision.

But otherwise, it's pretty safe to use, as I understand it.

Don't mix up your containers, Chuck-o.
