    should i?

still trying to run my drri through the marshall cab. however, i noticed that when i hooked up the cab to the "ext. speaker" jack on my amp, it produced a very faint tone. volume did not fix it.

should i be plugging the cabinet into the "main internal speaker" jack?

EDIT: to avoid blowing anything, i unplugged the internal speaker before running the cab.

You didn't unplug the internal speaker when you plugged into the external one, did you? I remember a thread about that, and that's not how those are meant to work. If you're not getting sound when both speakers are plugged in (internal and external) then I'll bet there is a problem with one of the outputs.

If you are only going to run the external cab and not the internal 12" speaker, make sure you plug the cab into the internal jack. That one must have a load...

yep. just called fender. both must be hooked up in order to work fully.

damn music store associate said it would blow something in the amp...

    Yep.

If nothing's plugged into the main output jack, the output is shorted. You can blow your OT if you play through the amp like that.

Could be OK, but you can't tell unless you try it out.

    Re: should i?

Someone posted a similar question on the Weber kit forum regarding playing an amp with nothing plugged in the output jack, thus shorting the secondary. This was Ted Weber's response:

Also... when you short the secondary, it reflects into the primary and causes the primary inductance to drop to zero. In that condition, the primary can't store any energy and therefore can't generate the large dangerous flyback voltages that destroy output transformers and cause arcing at the tube sockets.
