    Texas Cattledrive

WeberVST has a new pedal kit, the Texas Cattledrive.

It's a single germanium transistor boost pedal with added tone control. I'm guessing it's a modified Dallas Rangemaster circuit. Only $15 as a kit, $25 with an assembled board. Neither version comes with a box.

I've placed my order. I'll give a writeup when it arrives/is put together.

Wow! I've wanted to try something like that for a long time but haven't wanted to spend much money on it.
I'm looking forward to you write up (if I don't just go ahead and order it)!

    Hey Kap'n,

When you get your kit - no box included - you can use this to put it in...

Cool. I had to place an order with BYOC anyway, so I ordered a box from them. I got the small 'slightly less sturdy than BUD box' enclosure for $8.

Is this an overdrive or a clean boost type of thing? I think this might be really nice for $15!!

I believe it's based on a Dallas Rangemaster "Treble Boost."

Which doesn't give a perfectly clean boost. I believe (if the circuit is anything like my BYOC Tri-booster) that there is a Germanium transistor in there. The boost from that is a clear overdrive at lower volume settings, going to all-out mayhem at higher volume settings. Sounds great through a Vox amp.

I gigged the pedal for the first time this weekend, and it sounded great in the Treble-Boost mode. Well worth the $65 price of admission...

    And I'm off to Texas....

By the time I get back, my pedal should be here.

    Re: Texas Cattledrive

Pedal arrived yesterday. I was lazy, and just got the assembled kit for an extra $10, ready to go into a box. Everything's wired, even a carbon-zinc battery was included.

If I have time, I'll drill up a box, and test it out tonight.

That works out to over $150 each for all of the nine components inside.

    Re: Texas Cattledrive

I have a Bad Bob boost, and it would be nice to know how the Weber kit compares to it. If I remember correctly, Kap'n also uses a BB, so that he possibly could give us a comparison when he has built the kit?

It's sitting on my workbench, 99% done. I got distracted. I suppose I should resurrect it.

Mine's sitting on my bench. It sounded like crap.

I could never get voltages at the transistor to be what they should be. I either got a bad transistor or blew the one that it came with.

It's the first time an effect pedal hasn't worked out well for me on the first try.

i put mine in a box. it doesn't have much output, i have to turn it up all the way for it to be the same volume as when bypassed.
