So I bought this new bass.....

I picked up one of those new Jaguar basses......

Its absolutely a great bass. I had an issue though. It buzzed REALLY bad here at home, but even worse at a place that I play a jam at every week.

I took it back to the shop where I got it and it sounded clean as a whistle. I was a little puzzled, because my other basses all are pretty quiet at both places. 3 are passive and one (other than the Jag) is active. I turned off monitors at home, tried it in different rooms, etc......same......

The place where they have the jam has about 20 lights on dimmer, and I expect some noise. about all single coilers there have the same problem, except in 2 and 4 positions......

I bought a nice Furman, and about 90% of it went away. I know I can ust it anywhere and it was a good purchase........I just end up still scratching my head though.......what was the combination that made this one bass so intense with the buzzing?

I checked it out, its sheilded well, made well, and as I said it performed at the shop without issue. (Maybe on a power conditioner there?)

As for the bass.........yeah.....I like it. I still have the action at 9/64ths - 7/64ths out of the box. Maybe high for some and low for others, but for now (week 3) it seems ok.

I will try to do something that resembles pictures and some opinions when I get time to do a decent one.

As for the Furman........I am a believer......in a big way!

try disconnecting the ground running to the sheilding, you might have aground loop in there somewhere.

congrats on the bass though man!

The only time I've seen this particular issue was when I mistakenly used a speaker cable as an instrument cable. Buzzed like crazy everywhere I tried it, till I switched cables. Not that this is your issue, just my own personal experience.

I opened all 5 chambers - all are sheilded with paint, but none have a connetcion to the circuit. the Pickguard is foil backed......again - no connection. the Paint does not contact the foil.

both rigs have good quality speaker cables, and the problem did go away at the shop.

I think the only real way to determine the issue is to try my rigs in an area where the bass does not buzz thorugh another rig. then try to sort out cords, cables, gizmos, etc.

I took everything out of the situation effect-wise. No difference. I tried all the cables and cords I have, and tried it in different parts of the house. I turned off computers, lights, etc. I recognoze that my house is inheritly noisy....I even get the radio through some of my setups.

I really need to try all of this equipment at another location - other than the jam and my house.

FWIW - The Furman made almost all of it go away.

then try connecting to the paint, there is an open ground somewhere.

Do I need to connect the cavities, or just connect to the one with the pots?

    Chuck is good......Chuck is Wise........

Single ground wire - grommet end screwed into cavity onto paint, other end splayed open like under the bridge, placed under the control plate to ground.

Why did it not come like that?

Chuck - your help is appreciated!

BTW - Combined witht he Furman - it should be dead silent! I am using my Peavey, and have a slight noise, but then again - this thing took a couple of pretty nasty spills along the last 2-3 years

It seems to be all gooder now.

glad it worked out for ya man. sometimes they build guitars and then not do certain things right, they obviously painted in the sheild paint and grounded everything together control wise, but why not just ground the control plate to the cavity like you did? because some people are dumb!

it's the same with old school teles. there is not a need for a ground wire running to the plate because in leo's original design the controls are already grounded to the plate and strings through the height adjustment screws.

no quit typing and go play that beauty!
