Whatever he played was the thickest sounding Strat I ever heard it was almost as thick as a Les Paul tone unreal.
275 are made, 90 of them go to overseas... the rest will go to the Guitar Center...

This won't be news to Seattle-ites but I was kind of shocked to stumble -- literally -- across Brownie sitting in a plexiglass case, practically on the floor, outside the Guitar Room at the Experience Music Project while I was racing through there on vacation a month back. No one seemed to notice that it (or anything of significance) was right there, and I almost missed it myself. Kind of strange to have 15 minutes to myself like that.
I do recall a surprisingly (to me) narrow string spacing at the nut.

OK I've got it figured out. I've already got a Black Strat. I'll just remove the back tremelo cover plate (sell it on EBay), stick a cigarette under the low E string on the headstock and let it burn into through the finish and start calling my guitar Blackie!
For what that guitar is gonna sell for, I would rather have an oldie with a couple issues. Who is so into emulating someone else that they must have a guitar that looks just like their hero's axe?
Im sorry and not to offend anyones taste if its your thing well, OK. BUT that being said this make a new guitar beat it, scratch it, burn it ..whatever so it can look "OLD and VINTAGE" is the biggest load of marketing horsedung I have ever seen. I feel for those who pay a premium for this nonsense. I do have a Clapton Strat and it looks like new and it will age slowly with me and I wont have to pay some craftsman who's time would be better spent building fine guitars rather than gouging hacking a scraping a fine instrument for the sake of turning into a psuedo relic. These are NEW guitars and all the damage in the world wont make them vintage and it wont sound any better for the trouble, all that happens is someone get relieved of thier money for this "percieved service" so people can hang a phoney old looking guitar from their necks. Just food for thought I guess?

Yeppers! If there is any "Mojo" to be had at all, it comes from the blood sweat and tears of the years. Not someone defacing a fine instrument for appearance purposes.
I think Blackie is a bit different form other "Relics" in that it is actually a replica that happens to be reliced. Fender didn't have to drive their Custom Shop Pickup Tuck around town dragging these down the backroads but had to get the details right.
You could probably put it in the R & R Hall of Fame and no one would be the wiser. If I were rich I sure could see collecting a lot of these Replica Guitars for fun to hang in a case and play when the mood strikes.
As I stated previously I'm not a fan of pre-reliced guitars but since I like the look of an honest well worn guitar some of these factory relics can look cool.
Marcondo were you there? or is it on DVD somewhere?

"At The Royal Albert Hall Concerts, Eric used:
Black Fender Strat with noiseless pickups and a maple neck (another black Strat with Lace Sensor pickups).
Jim Dunlop strap locks.
Fender '57 tweed Twin amp, in a stack, with a spare on top (only used on “Sunshine Of Your Love”) and a Leslie speaker.
The Leslie had a separate preamp, used to balance out tone and volumes with the amp when used together.
He also had a Dunlop wah-wah pedal in line.
His wireless system was the Samson Synth 6 system, with packs powered by 2 AA batteries. This ran to the input of his foot-switching unit through a Zaola cable from the cannon out on the Samson.
His guitar straps were by Ernie Ball, as were his picks and his strings (''Slinkys'' 10 13 17 26 36 46 gauges).
This information was graciously provided by Eric's guitar technician Lee Dickson."

The San Francisco Guitar Center will have the new "Blackie" on display this weekend if anyone around the Bay Area is interested in taking a look at one in person.
The Guitar Center in Lewisville, TX has one. I saw it yesterday. It can be yours for $20,000.00 It's on "Sale", the regular price is $24,000.00
Yea that price sure is a kick in the nuts for a new Strat. Still for some reason I find that guitar appealing.
No danger in looking since there's no way I could be tempted into buying it.

These guitars look and probably play and sound amazing but for that price, I just don't get it. I understand the aura and collectability but for $24K I would much rather have a real 100% pre-cbs strat then a replica of one or EC's. Am I on crack about this or are these guitars priced accordingly?

I have seen the market for used and even new reissues go through the roof recently. If you are into really shopping around you can still get some good bargains out there, but they are becoming scarce.
Think GC would let one buy this on a 1 year no payment plan?
Heck, you could play the thing for a year and probably still turn it around for a profit.

Sorta.... I am actually in the North Ft. Worth area. Sounds like you are in Denton...I don't know if any of the other area GCs have one. They are kinda cool to look at, but like some of these other guys are saying... I would rather have a guitar that aged "naturally"....
Yep, I've seen the boom in brazilian historic les pauls and some LTD edition relic fenders but not to the tune of $24,000!! To me, once you get into the real vintage territory, it's a no brainer. I'm guessing if these reissues get into that price range, the real-deal vintages will be in the stratosphere and I'm just talking the run of the mill pre-cbs strats... not the Blackie's and Bursts which will clearing the "well over million dollars" mark soon thereafter

I'm not losing any sleep over this, but still...
All I'll say is this - if Fender's marketing folks can come up with a guitar that costs about $300 to build, and they have people waiting in line to buy them for over $20,000, I want to hire those dudes away from Fender right now!

I just called Guitar Center for a couple of questions, I usually donate around that 25 K a year from my company to charitable organisations ( to make Taxes suck a little less blood ... )
They told me that alot of the proceeds from the instruments go to Crossroads, but I don'T get a donation receipt !!!
Will talk to my accountant on Monday to see if I can get away with it !!! will keep you guys posted !

I had the chance to have one in hands and play it a bit... sparkling pearly brilliant... very direct sweet response... feels like played 1000s of hours... very strong aging... I instantly felt myself at home...
but the price-tag hurts... really...
