"Save The Last Dance For Me" - The Drifters, or Emmylou Harris
"Come A Little Bit Closer" - Jay & the Americans, Trini Lopez
I think(?) the Trini version is the one I dig.

Though I love his use of a Beethoven melody in the song This Night, from the Innocent Man album.
Some of his earlier stuff was a-freakin'-mazing...Captain Jack's one of my favorites, especially the live version.
"I'm gonna find myself a girl
that can show me what laughter means
And we'll fill in the missing colors
In each other's paint-by-number dreams..."
Ok...some of these may not have been intended to be pop songs, but they may have ended up being so anyway...
"Take On Me" - Ah-Ha
"Voices" - Cheap Trick
"Photograph" - Def Leppard
"Let's Go Crazy" - Prince & The Revolution
"I Love Rock And Roll" - Joan Jett & The Blackhearts
"Borderline" - Madonna
"The Middle" - Jimmy Eat World
"Got To Be Real" - Cheryl Lynn
"Jukebox Hero" - Foreigner
"Knowing Me, Knowing You" - ABBA
"Heart Of Glass" - Blondie
"Don't You Want Me" & "Fascination" - The Human League
"Relax" - Frankie Goes To Hollywood
"Only Happy When It Rains" - Garbage
"Strip" - Adam Ant
"Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" - Michael Jackson
I'm sure I'll think of more...
"I got Jackie Onassis in my pants." - The Dictators
- Scott.
"Our Lips Are Sealed" - The Go-Go's
"I got Jackie Onassis in my pants." - The Dictators

From the Todd Rundgren file:
"Love is the Answer" my favorite version is a live version by Utopia. I think the Cd was "Live in Japan 1988" but I coould be wrong on the year.
"100 Years" by Five for Fighting.
From the "Ill never grow tired of it" catergory: 'Baby Come Back' by Player
and one more, found in the "you've probably never heard it" file:
She Sheila by The Producers. In fact, I'd throw in a couple more from the Producers debut "What's He Got (That I ain't got)" and "What She Does to Me"
The Producers were an Atlanta Ga band that almost made it big time in 81-82. A similar sounding group that did 'hit' was The Tubes "She's a Beauty" and "Talk to Ya Later"
The Producers are still one of my favorite pop bands! She Sheila is a great pop song. Picked up a CD of their first 2 albums not too long ago. Saw them in concert back in '82 and got to go to the after party with the band as well. It's ashamed they never got further with their career.Originally Posted by TL5

I'm playing catch-up here, so if we haven't gotten these:
"Elenore" - The Turtles
"Never Been To Spain" - Three Dog Night
"Hit Me One More Time" - Britney Spears (sorry, it's a good song)
"Heat Wave" - Martha and the Vandellas
"Would I Lie To You" - Eurythmics
"Stacey's Mom" - Fountains of Wayne
gweimer, my same old band that played "Hold Your Head Up" and "Liar" also played "Elenore!" Geez, that was a fun band.
That's a good list. I love that Britney record, no lie. Can't give her much credit for it, but the record sounds awesome. :)
The Monkees always makes me smile. And "Born to Run". And just about any Cream song, but especially "White Room" and "Toad" from the reunion DVD. "A Day in the Life" still does it too. And "Lithium" by Nirvana -- but that's a long story...

Edit: I just realised I got this in the wrong thread. This was supposed to be in "the songs that make you happy" thread. Just in case anyone cares.

My current band is actually working up a version of it for ourselves. Maybe we should do "Soldier of Love" by Donny Osmond while we're at it.Originally Posted by Gravity Jim

Did anyone catch John Fogerty last night on PBS. Caught the last few minutes of a concert, apparently pretty recent. Holy WOW. Impressive as hell. My fanaticism is Revived. He was amazing, what I caught.

I have read this whole thread, so I pick:
Dreamer, and Give a Little Bit- Supertramp
Time for me to fly - REO Speedwagon
the whole Pyramid album - Alan Parsons Project
Solsbury Hill and Red Rain- Peter Gabriel
All the songs you guys have picked would make a killer setlist!
Things are more like they are today than they have ever been before.
Anyone mention "Africa" from Toto yet?
or "The Break-up Song" by Greg Kihn?
