    Re: New MIM Stratocaster XII

I tried at GC in Orange a while back.
Couldn't hear well enough to really tune it, and an out of tune 12-string can be unpleasant, even in the peak rush-hour GC din. So I didn't play it long.

I will say this, it felt really good.
I could navigate and finger chords much more easily than I could on any Ricks I've tried. (Nothing against ricks at all.)
The Strat didn't require the kind of adjustment I'd have to make to be semi-competent on a Rick. It felt pretty familiar right off the bat, and the set-up and action seemed very good. Can't recall the price, but it was pretty reasonable.
And the Strat's p'ups made for some very nice jangle.:yay
    Very, very cool idea.
:yay:yay to Fender on this one.

Can do. I've been very interested in a Strat 12, but didn't know they were introducing a MIM model til right now... I'm kinda psyched.

I wish I could find a good Squier Venus 12. Loved the weird look, the pickup set-up, the wide bound fingerboard... that thing looked just about perfect to me, even though I still haven't found one to try out.

Yeah, it's a decent size neck, more like a typical 12-string acoustic. Comfy girth and profile. The phtot on the Fender site gives you a pretty good idea of how well spaced the pairs are.
There are so many variations of Strat that are nothing all that unique, this one was impressively, its own special thing.

The one I played may still be there, Kap'n.
    LPB, w/matching headstock, I think.

Though Burgundy mist would be sweet. :drl

Man, I just dumped my 12-string acoustic a few weeks ago.

I want new speakers for my Bandmaster.

Meanwhile, I've got a couple of pieces I'm probably going to dump/give away.

    Will this ever end?

Are you guys talking about the CIJ Strat XII? I've played these and they are okay, not as cool as the '60s Fender XIIs in terms of playability or sound. They should reissue the real Fender XII! For a lower priced 12-string electric, Schecter makes the best ones I've played (the TSH-12 model). They run about $450!

No, the MIM one. They haven't made the CIJ one in 10 years or so.

    Re: New MIM Stratocaster XII

i played a LPB one today. the one i played seemed okay, action was a little high, and the pups were just okay to me. the bridge pup was weak compared to the other two, and the combo positions seemed a little dark to me. if i bought it i'd definitely swap the pups in it. overall though it seemed like a really cool guitar. i might have to keep my eye open on ebay to see if i can snag a neck off one...

So I stopped by Guitar Center Manchester today, and they offered me this at a price I couldn't refuse.

I need to do a few adjustments, but it sounds pretty damn good as is.

Schweet. Break out the compressor and get to work on "I'll Probably Feel A Whole Lot Better".

I know I'm gonna break down and add something in LPB to my arsenal sooner or later. You'll share in the blame.

Glad I could help! I've never owned a blue guitar before. They're all been either white, red or sunburst...and one orange!

    That is so rockin'!

But you know what they say... with a 12-string you spend half your time tuning it, and the other half playing out of tune. :)

    Or...

Q: How long does it take to tune a 12-string?
    A: Noone knows.

I was having a bit of tuning issues earlier this afternoon. However, the original strings had never been stretched. Stretched out a bit, and it holds a tuning nicely. Semi-individually compensated saddles too. Adjust the regular string, and the octave one has a separate setscrew that locks it to the regular saddle.

Judging by the dust in the upper cutaway, and the string condition, I'd probably only been the second or third person who ever played it. It's immaculate.

Tre` cool, Capitan! I've never had the desire to own a 12 other than acoustic, but that's real purdy.

I figure it'll be good for some Fleetwood Mac, early Who tunes, Peter Gabriel, etc. There's definately room in our set for it.

I know that this is the Fender Forum, but...

Can I recommend the Burns Double Six as another budget option? I picked one up for £289 here in the UK last year and it is unquestionably the best value guitar I have ever bought.

    Very coo-ell, Kap'n.

Now you can add cluck to Byrds tunes.

Played it a bit at band rehearsal tonight. Bog fun. Still need to monkey with the pickups a bit.

I did find that while the 12 works great for parts of some songs, it doesn't for other parts.

    Maybe I need a doubleneck.

That's not if for me at all. It's mainly the weight issue.

I wonder if Warmoth makes doubleneck bodies with their massively chambered design.

    maybe.

i've been thinking of building a doubleneck out of two strats. one lh body, and a rh body. i'd sandwich the rh body to the top bout of the lh body. so i'd kinda look like the gibson, or even telecast's bastard....

you are compressing the shit out of that 12er right?

Well, I still need to mess around a bit.

I was groovin' with the band last night, running it through a Marshall-y 1x12 combo, and it was cool, but not it. I figured I needed to dink with the pickups a bit.

This eve, I tried it with the 3x10 Bandmaster. Chime, and ring and oh, man, it was soooo nice. That was before I started to mess with the pickups. I dialed those in a bit more, and it was even better.

FWIW, Marcondo thinks these things may come with Texas Specials, going by the Ishibashi website.

I'm going to need to wire it for a tone control on the bridge, as there's so much ring in that position, it just needs an edge pulled off.

So. Central Rain, So You Want to Be a Rock and Roll Star...it's all in here.

    Next up, messing with compression/limiting.
