    Daphne Blue or Vintage white?

Well. I got the white base coat, blue paint, and the clear coats. All was set that my Stratoclonester was going to be a 62-ish daphne blue relic, with RW/Ebony board.

But now .... AAARRRRRGGGHHHH.... I have second thoughts.

    Daphne Blue or Vintage white??

    Help!

When I bought my first Strat in many years about 10 years ago, I was knocked out love-at-first-sight by Lake Placid Blue.

I never got so sick of seeing anything in my LIFE as seeing that damn blue guitar. I will never own another blue guitar as long as I live, hand to God.

Oh, sure, you'll love it when it's new... but in six months, or a year, perhaps sooner - or later - you will come to loathe its hideous blue-ness. It will, like the heartbeat beneath the floorboards in Poe's tell-tale, drive you slowly but inexorably mad.

    So, I vote for white.

I would vote for Daphne Blue. White is cool, & especially when it becomes aged & yellowed; but it's just too hard for me (in my situation) to get a flawless finish & white shows EVERY IMPERFECTION.

71818 wins it for daphne blue. I might be quite nifty with a spray can... but wrecking a fairly expensive strat clone body is not what I have in mind...

    Thanks, y'all.

71818, are you doing the "nails thing" to support the body?

How do you support the body when you're spraying the front? Curious mind wants to know.... I have done one Strat body (which turned out horrible) using the paint-stick in neck pocket method, and then found painting the insides of the horns was much more difficult.

This time I plan to use the nails to support it, and lay it flat on a (news paper covered) table in the garden, and spray it that way.

Need to wait for the weather to get a little warmer though....

You got it. L'il tiny nails. I do it just like you except for the use of a lazy susan to turn the body while I spray.

Thanks guys. I am just so glad that no one had suggested a "blue burst over white" like a danelectro :lol

Next time I am buying one that comes painted.

Re: Daphne Blue or Vintage white?

My only refinishing project was doing a Strat body in Daphne Blue nitro lacquer. And my '60 reissue that color as well, so I guess you can tell I like the color.

One thing I did not anticipate on either guitar is how the yellowing of the clear coat moves the blue closer to green with the passage of time. But you'd get yellowing on the white as well, so for my own taste I'd still go with the blue.

Good luck, protect your lungs, and have fun! :yay

A irregularly yellowed sonic blue strat -- which looks somewhere between sonic blue and surf green -- is my favorite custom color. :yay :yay

Re: Daphne Blue or Vintage white?

Photoweborama, yep, LPB is a LOVELY colour on a Strat. I'd love to have a proper air-brush (and space) to do it well. But for now, daphne blue it shall be.

Sabby - it's probably not going to be nitro as it's quite rare here (as well as quite expensive for my budget). But "blotchy blue" seems interesting.
