    My noisy Jaguar.

Hello everyone. My first ever guitar forum post anywhere.
To the point. I have a Jag (Japanese). I have had it for 2 years from new. I have not been able to play it much due to work commitments.
Anyway, :zzz . When i plug the jag into my amp there is a lot of noise you can hear. Quite a dull frequency, and gets louder the more i crank the amp up. If i hold the guitar on the metal part of the board by the strings (excuse the terminoligy) the noise is not so bad. The screws that hold the plate are tight so it can not be as simple as that. If you have any ideas what it might be please let me know.
    Thanx.

grounding problem somewhere. you'll have to search thru the wiring and see where it is.

    Jags have single coil pick-ups.

That could be what you describe....which is a common thing with single coils.
Plug in the guitar and stand in front of your amp with the volumes up.
Turn from side to side to see if the noise abates.
If the noise changes significantly as you turn, and nearly disappears with the guitar at a particular angle away from the amp, then it's likely that it's the single coil p-ups....and can't be altered.

Otherwise...if the noise is really loud and consistant, it's a grounding problem.
Take it to a guitar technician.

Thanx for that. Any idea how much that will cost if it's a grounding problem?

Can't speak for the guy you take it to, but I wouldn't expect it to be all that much. $20-$25 or so.

Depending on how loud the hum is and how much gain you're using, it's probably normal single coil hum.
If there's no ground problem the guitar can probably be shielded better to reduce the hum.

No change with the turn from side to side so I guess its a grounding problem. ;)
