Advice on birdge replacement pup w/TS

So I'm using CS TxSp in my strat and love the tone of positions 2 and 4, and even 5. But if I go to 1 it's just too thin. Is there a replacement pup that would fatten up the tone that would work with TS's?

I want to stick with a single coil, but wouldn't mind a humbucker sound. I've heard of double stacks and the like...anyone have any suggestions?

You'll lose the quack if you get a fatter sounding p'up.

Decide which is more important. Four great sounds and no bridge p'up, or four great sounds and no "bridge/middle" quack. Then you can narrow down the p'up choices.

there is a mod i saw once in an old copy of vintage guitar where you can use an hb in a strat with the stock 5 way and get a coil cut in the combo posish if so desired. if you go with a stacked i'd search that out for you, that way you can get the quack without having to do some crazy wiring with mini switches and what not.

Get a Fralin Baseplate for the bridge pickup.

    Good call, Chris.

The baseplate will knock about 10% off the highs. Fralin uses wax to secure the plate to the pickup. Callaham offers a plate, too and recommends super glue. I've used both and both work.

You can also try to lower the bridge pup a little and see if that helps or, wire the bridge to the tone pot and dial in whatever you want.

Along with the Fralin baseplate, connect the middle pickup's tone control to the bridge pickup.

That'll take a little of the edge off.

You can either put a jumper on the switch between the middle p/u tone pot lead and the next open lug to have a tone control for the bridge and middle p/us or move the middle p/u's ton pot lead to the next open lug.

The second option removes the tone pot from the middle pickup making it stronger sounding and it makes the in between positions sound better.

Re: Advice on birdge replacement pup w/TS

Thanks for the advice guys. I was playing live this past Sunday and noticed how much I used the "quack" in the second position. I hate to compromise that. It just cuts through so well when you go for the lead.

I think a second guitar is what I need. I'm saving my pennies for a tele (even more quack).

How much would a base plate effect the 2nd position tone?

My middle pup is connect to my bridge tone control giving me the freedom to tone down the bridge a bit.

The baseplate gives it even more "click" when used with the middle pickup. Next to getting a hotter pickup for the bridge, it's the best thing you can do to fatten up the bridge position.

Thanks fezz. Going to check some out. The Fralin looks nice.
