I was trying to research recording software. Do you know anything about these titles?
Ableton Live Lite 4 (inc. with PCI card)
Gigastudio 24 (inc. with PCI card)
KRISTAL (free)
n-Track Studio ($75)
Thanks,

I use n-tracks....thought it was still $45.00. That must have been my update cost.
Don't know what I can tell you except I'm happy with it.
If you leave the house, you're just asking for it.
I used Kristal for a while. Results were OK, and the price is certainly right. Less capable than some, and a bit counter-intuitive in spots compared to some of the commercial software (but frankly it was all bloody confusing to me at the beginning). It takes freebie VST plugins well (like these http://www.kjaerhusaudio.com/classic-series.php) which greatly expands it's utility and capability. Kind of a pain in that it only records .wav files as I recall, so you have to do a fair amount of fiddling to convert to mp3 for JamZone style sharing.
But, it's a pretty good 'starter' program.
Hey moonpie,
you're correct on the price...the 16 bit version is $45, 24 bit is $75.
Do you know if it can save to mp3, or only to wav? Or is it common for programs to only save to wav?

I have N-Track, but it's a pretty system intense program if you want to use all the bells and whistles, which I do. My machine does not have quite enough power to run it the way I want. Each revision ran a bit worse until it was just to slow for me to run.
I use old computers. If I upgraded, I would have no problems.

I'm running a Celeron 2.20 mhz with 1 gb RAM.
Defrag frequently and delete all the useless .sng files that build up in your recording folders.
I think it can work with mp3, Cyber, if you have the correct plugins, which I know zero about. Thanks for the link, Clay. Might be time to learn something about plugins.

'Pie -- those things were all really fun to fool around with (and again, the price is right! -- like getting eight Boss pedals for free. You wouldn't want to use them all every day, but it's nice to kick one in when the situation, err, calls for it). Plus, they look really cool when you open them up!
When I was having all those e.q. problems/confusions at the beginning, that Graphic Equalizer was perfect for a like me. Still can't really figure out how to think using parametric, really. :spin
