any tips on how to neutralize truss rod rattle?
when I tap on the back of the neck the rod is rattling. is more pronounced near the middle of the neck

It would appear that there is no tension on the truss rod. Put a bit of tension on the truss rod by turning the adjusting nut so it is just snug. That shouldn't affect the neck bow and should stop or at least minimize the rattle.

If it's a newer Bi Flex truss rod you can lossen it a little more to get it to not rattle as well.
There's sometimes a loose spot between tightening and lossening the truss rod where they can rattle.
Keep in mind this only pertains to 2-way truss rods like the Bi Flex, otherwise follow Blair's advice.
