Riffenstein,
I hold my hand up as to owning one of these. It is an '84 and I have replaced the Schaller bridge with a Gibson ABR-1 bridge, Schaller pickups are changed to Tom Holmes H450/H454 and amber top hats on the pots. It is a great axe and was my main squeeze up to 1998. I also had a black Esprit Elite but I sold it in one mad moment a few years ago. Truly versatile and sweet sounding guitars.
Check out mine at:

Hence the name "ultra"
Nice pictures!
I have an Esprit and I wonder if the original PU´s are the same size as a P-90?
It´s not the size of a full humbucker.:blah
I own a Fender Esprit Srandard and it is an amazing guitar.Do you know its value if I sell it?It is in veyy good condition.

I don't presonally own one, but a friend has a flame..
No idea what year it is.
I have a flame, and get this, it remains virtually unplayed in the original case. It is a stunning looking/playing guitar and is becoming collectable.

Nice!!
I´ll see if I can get some pics of my Esprit soon.
Mine is of the later type, issued as a Robben Ford Ultra SP (Spruce top) w/ the SD pups. I liked the simpler look with the Gibson bridge and stopbar rather than the Schallers it came with, so that's what's on there now. It has a tummy contour on the back and tone chambers.

NICE!!!
Thats a beaut and looks great with the different pups. I have allways thought the originals sounded a little 'muddy'.
here´s mine

Love it to bits. A great lead tone especially after lowering the pups a touch.
Amazing build quality.
I honestly don´t find them muddy as long as the pups are kept back from the strings. They have a great jazz tone too, especially for a solid body.Originally Posted by Dr Fene

I am going to try that and see how I go- thanks.
Having said that my pups are not uncovered like yours are they original?
BTW looks fine in black!
Hi thereOriginally Posted by Dr Fene
thanks! I like the black finish too....but I would have taken any colour! Getting tricky to find.
Mine are the originals. Schallers as far as I know.
I´m not saying these are the greatest pickups around, but I found a setting that works for me.
Cheers
David
Having had a closer look at the pups on your elite I see that they are the same. I have made an adjustment and yes moving the pups a little further from the strings does improve the sound quality.
Rather like the noisless on a Deluxe I once owned. CHEERS!

The Crimson one looks great, and so does the Black one.....guys! I had a chance to pick up a black one for $400 a while back and passed on it cause I had just gotten the Ford Model, which cost considerably more. I just couldn't justify getting another one at the time. That's one that got away......
SBD thanks for posting the image, must get the hang of that someday!

How much is an Esprit appr.??
They seem to vary a fair bit. I paid $600 but would have easily paid more considering the quality. I think $1000 is tops. So between say $500 and $1000 I guess, but you´ve got to find one first!

What brand is the Esprit PU´s?
Schaller I think.
OK, Thanks!
Yep and rather good they are too. You need them back from the strings, but I like the tone a lot.Originally Posted by Dr Fene
I know this is an old thread, but have any of you seen or played the new Squier Esprit. It is amazing how much they look like the originals.
I have one that I purchased in Canada, and it was around 600. The US ones can be had for 400 US. They are quite a nice guitar. I think they are made by Cort in Korea, and they have a fabulous fit and finish.
I have mainly Fender and Gibson, but I was very impressed with this guitar.
I have always been looking for this guitar ever since I saw it in an instructional tape by Robben.
Mine is the Heritage Sunburst, and it is gorgeous. By the way what cases are you using for the Ultras. Fender does not have a case for this guitar yet.
I´ve tried a Squier Esprit.
Very nice guitar, but not as an Esprit.
Except for the look.
But if I haven´t got an Esprit already, hte Squier would climb on my GAS-ladder :)
I had an Esprit Ultra for a few years. Traded an ES-335 for it. The pickups seemed muddy and after a few years traded that for another 335 (even better one). The Esprit was a nice playing guitar, the new owner changed the stock pups which turned out to be a big improvement. On mine the Schaller tailpiece was developing a warp from the string tension (sort of a 'frown' shape to it)
