    70's Polyester Finish Wear

How is it that color under 2 of my 70s Fender guitars have disappeared in heavy wear spot areas but it still has a dull Polyester coat over it? I thought this Poly stuff was airtight.

Maybe the finish isn't polyester, but oils, dirt, and sweat from your hands? Clean with naptha to verify. I would probably leave it.

It's actually a clear coat finish over those wear marks. No big deal, just a bit of a mystery how the paint can vanish and the proctective coat remains. Probably some logical scientific principal at work here that eludes me.

That makes the most sense and I'll bet you're right. The paint is sandwiched inbetween the a base coat and top coat finish.

    It's a clear grain filler.
