Photos of 1970s maple board refret job

My well-loved 1973 black Tele Custom is out for its first refret, and the guy who is doing it has posted a step-by-step photo essay of what he's done so far (put in the frets, but not yet laquered the board).

If you're interested, the photos can be reached at the link below:

Oh yes, and here is a photo of the patient with neck still attached:

Looks like you got the right guy for the job. What size frets did you go with?

Nice pic - that's one cool geetar you got there... :yay

    Hope all goes well.

    I asked for 6105s.

He says he's got the lacquer on there now, so there may be more photos in a day or two.

Edited because I can't spell ("lacquer," not "laquer").

Damn... you had the perfect opportunity to cut a compound radius on the fretboard while the frets were out.... flatten that fretboard down!

    Looks good though

blauserk--which pickup, bridge or neck, do you use most often?

Back in 1971, I made a DIY-version of the Tele Custom (see my avatar) by installing a Fender/Seth Lover humbucker in the "neck" position.

For my style of playing (rhythm and chordal jazz), I find I use it 99% of the time.

What are your impressions with your guitar?

The job is finished and the nitrocellulose laquer (not poly) is on the neck. Aaaaah . . . can't wait to put the old girl through her paces.

    Bob:

The luthier (Greg) indicated that he was going to flatten the upper part of the neck down a bit. I'll let you know what he did.

OTM: I've become much more of a neck pickup guy in the past year and a half--literally, in the first 15 years I had this git, I probably put it on the neck pickup alone maybe a half-dozen times. But for certain things, it's just great, and has a bit less of the extreme bite of a steel-saddled tele.
