1965 Fender Twin Reverb reissue transformer cleaning advice

    Hello.
While going through my 2004 '65 reissue twin reverb to do a deep cleaning of sockets, etc,
I see that my transformers are surface rusty on the cores.
The housings are pretty good though.
The transformers work properly they way they look, but I would like to clean them up and possibly repaint them.
What are some suggestions for cleaning these properly? Or should I just leave them since they work?
If I do decide to paint them, what paint would anyone suggest?

Thanks for the insight and help.
    Steve

It's not broke......don't try and "fix" it.
