Re: Harvey approaches... or "Friday thread"

Watching radar... looks like y'all are just getting another absolute deluge! I'm really pulling for y'all. Prayers and positive vibes continuing to go out to you, your loved ones, and others down that way. Really glad your folks are okay. I hope that their home will fare well. Looks like historic rain totals at this point all around Houston.

I heard a FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Administration) official say on the radio when asked if FEMA's involvement would be months, say, "FEMA could be here [Texas] for YEARS." Others are saying the destruction could be on par with Katrina.

This one is going to be worse than Katrina unfortunately.

My heart breaks for my neighbors, coworkers, and fellow Houstonites.

    Still safe and dry.

The Brazos river rise has slowed a little.

I haven't turned on the tv this morning as it is so hard to watch.

Re: Harvey approaches... or "Friday thread"

    We are safe.

    Our luck is still holding.

We found a video on utube yesterday that showed Mom and Dads house and as of the time it was taken the water hadn't reached the back door. No idea about the front. We're very nervous and stressed but hopeful. I doubt that the county is going to let us in there to look today. The last I heard is possibly Saturday.

The Brazos river rise has slowed considerably and the revised crest is 57.5'. As of 6:15 this morning it was at 53.22'. We shall see.

Much of the Houston area is just destroyed and some of it will be under water for weeks.
My heart breaks for those who haven't been as fortunate as we have while my heart swells with pride to see so many private citizens helping with rescue efforts.

    I will keep y'all updated.

    Glad you're all safe!
In the 80's I worked for Texas-New Mexico Power company, and flew to Houston to meet with some local mechanics to go to A&M for a seminar. We met at the construction center in Friendswood, and I commented on the "john" boats there. The guy I was riding with told me that where we were standing was 6' below sea level, and when it rained, they used the boats to get material to the crews!
