    Leaving/storaging your guitar near amps...

I just read a thread in another forum. The OP noticed that his strat's neck pup was dead and foubd out that it had degaussed.

He'd usually leave the guitar very close to a bunch of big amps and thought the bulky magnets on those could be the reason.

Well, I did some research (I know little or nothing about physics). I was worried myself, since I live in a shithole country where it is horribly expensive and logistically difficult to send pups back to Fender or Gibson for a regauss, so...

Ok, I know: it's a MLP thread but still...

    Thoughts?

Nope, your amp isn't going to weaken your pickups.

I know a little 'bout this. We make magnets for pickups. The only way you'll de Gauss a permanent magnet is to

    1) Expose it to a REALLY STRONG magnetic field, on the order of you won't find in anywhere or,
    2) Raise the temperature a lot, like, past where the guitar's finish ignites into flames.

Permanent magnets are called permanent for a reason. I played a restored '55 Les Paul that was in a fire and had the finish burned, melted the bobbins and it still sounded great.

Unless you have some really cheapo offshore imports this would be the last thing I worry about.
