Sunday Thread--Whatcha Doin'?

I have to do as much as I can when I feel well and motivated, so I'm going to try to today to get my Mac to communicate with my USB mixer so that I can start recording the songs I've written lately.

Hope you all have a great day.

    Re: Sunday Thread--Whatcha Doin'?

looks like another nice summer day here in da no'theast. I feel like going for a walk but then I'll be all sweaty if I try to play guitar while my sister takes my mom to church so I'll wait until after. Might run down to the grocery store before all the church people jam the place up

I didn't get to go out for the Fourth. I spent all week scouring the internet for deals on bass guitars, bodies, necks and finding jack squat. Not that there isn't anything out there, just nothing that grabs my attention or if something does the seller has a very high opinion of their goods and a price to match. Trying to tell myself to be patient and not jump on the first thing to come along. I did get some cassette tapes even though I thought they were a little pricey. That's what happens when stuff isn't made anymore. There is a place that makes good quality tapes but one of the types I want has a minimum order of 100. Yikes. So ebay and amazon it is.

Where's my coffee? Shoot, it's downstairs. Later.

    What am I doing?
Trying to get out of my own way - so much to do and I keep putting it all off! Had a great gig last night with some of the best guys you could ever wish to play with! Had a few old friends show up and it was a very cool night. Not a big crowd, but a great night all the same.

Summer cold, deep in the chest, sinuses swollen and running, headache, but all good I guess - still being seen and not viewed so I will take it.

hoping for a couple of videos from last night - we will see if anyone got them. Also trying to get ground crew finalized for Roadhouse Bluesfest - we have Joe Louis Walker headlining and it should be a great show!

Side note - played a bass last night I had assembled over the course of a year, maybe 6-7 years ago. I recently changed the strings out and put on a set of Chromes (Flats) I had on another bass, but didn't like them on it. On THIS bass - WOW! It finally came to life as I had hoped. Each one is its own universe. This one is pretty nice after all that. For a Franken Jazz it is pretty special - Hwy1 Body, Reggie Hamilton Neck, roadworn J pups, Am std loaded control plate - and a vintage bridge. I call it JC - for Johnny Cash - since I assembled it one part at a time! Its just a bass, but its a pretty cool one. If I had forged it, I would be told...... this bass will cut!

Ok - so now to shower, work on laundry, clean up in the house, cut grass, and try to recover some.

I'm torn between just plain buying a Squier VM Precision PJ bass for 3 bills, or building my own which is likely to cost double that and then some. I'm slightly leery of the indonesian build quality, I'd prefer it to be chinese like my CV tele. Unfortunately there is no CV bass I like right now. I wish I liked the J body but I just don't. I want a p body, j neck and I want it to weigh 8.5 or less.

Gutted all the old pool equipment yesterday and got the new pump, filter, 3 way valve and checkvalve installed and running.

700 lbs of sand and 500 lbs of salt.

Today I'll install the booster pump, Polaris, and the salt system.

The car is a filthy mess, the worktruck is a filthy mess, I'm a filthy mess!

    Y'all be well my friends.

I will try to find a cool pic of it - I think I have it posted here somewhere in one of the Hooters gigs from a couple years ago....... It hasn't changed - just the strings.

    Old pic - same bass

    Relaxificating.

No gig last night, but I went to see Blue Öyster Cult at a local outdoor venue. Those guys are fantastic, man. Dual guitar insanity from Buck Dharma and Richie Castellano. Those guys are both so amazing. Really enjoyed that show.

It was an all-day music and food festival, but the "opener" for BOC was Tom Keifer, the lead singer from the 80s hair-metal band, Cinderella. Relived some spandex and leather memories for sure. Lol. Fun stuff.

I so want to see BOC ... again ... or more correctly, for real this time. They played at some outdoor music festival in Maine that was a nightmare to get to. We had to park a town or two away and walk miles to get there. Missed pretty much everything and stuck around for the bonfire with the car on top. Then it was miles back to the car. I think I actually slept while somebody else was driving, something I never do normally. This was back in the late '70s or early '80s, I think. Memory is kind of fuzzy about that whole trip. Drugs and alcohol you say? Why yes please and thank you

Saw BOC back in Columbus Ohio... 1984 I guess. And kinda funny... I actually heard BOC's version of Roadhouse Blues before I ever heard Morrison's original lol.

Played with my new effects pedal after work this afternoon and allowed some jam-time to help melt away the stress of the day. before my girl came home tonight.

Hope y'all had a good weekend.

Started off with some guitar playing; then yard work for a few hours, more guitar, shower, more guitar, house work, then started a fire in the fire pit to end the evening. Glad I squeezed in a few hours of guitar!! :)

A different kind of Sunday for me: After taking a couple of days off this week due to the 4th of July holiday to continue putting my new office and guitar/photo studio together (and my back hasn't let me forget it for days!), I spent Sunday at the ball park, watching the Washington Nationals beat the Atlanta Braves 10-5 in the last game before the All-Star break. It was the perfect day to also set up my new computer, as migrating data from the old to the new was predicted to take seven hours plus. I just let it do its thing while I watched the Boys of Summer do their thing.

I spent Sunday steaming over the fact that 12 years of posting now make no sense because the di*kheads at Photobucket decided they could ruin the internet.

Yep.. with nary a warning. One day "POOF!!"... all gone. I really hope that PB disappears into a dark abyss. I'd perform my own lobotomy before I'd give them a dime of my money.

Exactly the way I feel. I am utterly despondent about it. The day the internet died. I came back from a LOOOONG vacation in the mountains and had no idea. Bastids! I'd perform my second lobotomy again!

lol Yep... I sincerely feel bad for those people that had TONS of images stored on PB. In my case, I only had maybe 50 or so images... and while it did indeed make me sad to see all my pictures vanish, it wasn't nearly as unfortunate as hearing from others that years worth of their accumulated images had been wiped out. I bounce between a few forums and it has really hurt the integrity of those forums, obviously. On my Jeep forum, there are so many tech threads that are no longer even relevant due to this obliteration. Even more disparaging is the fact that with time-sensitive editing features, you can't even go back in and fix anything. PB absolutely wiped out so much forum content and in a day and age where forums are already fragile enough, this just compromised their legitimacy even more. Sorry for the short rant but indeed, this is just a shame.

Oh and by the way... Not sure if anyone else remembers sitting up patiently on Sunday nights waiting for the Dr. to arrive on the radio dial all the way from Culver City, but I sure do...

I probably have 7-800 pictures on PB. 99.99% of them are on my computer so I can upload them again when I need to. On the few sites that allow it, I can upload directly and imbed. It's clunkier than using but I don't know why more sites don't do that.

There is anther thread on this, but to save time, once downloaded directly you have no control over it. If somebody quotes you your deletion of the photo (or replacement) is no longer replacing the quoted picture. If you get booted from the site you also an not remove content because you "gave it to them".

I didn't technically "lose" anything when they did this. I still have the pics on my computer. If I didn't I could still go there and download them to my computer. I just don't want to go over the probably thousands of posts I made in the last 10 years replacing the pics with ones from another site. Just cross referencing photo names with over 600 would kill me.

I hate lawyers but I dearly hope someone sues the knickers off of them for destroying half of the websites and forums out there in one fell swoop with no warning.

    Re: Sunday Thread--Whatcha Doin'?

Sunday I flew down to Austin, TX to help train the Texas School Boards Association in a training program I've been doing for 8 years. It was HOT in Austin. didn't get a chance to c heck out the music scene and Wednesday morning I was off to the airport at 5:30 am to catch a flight home. With delays in Chicago and cr@p weather I didn't get home until nearly 9:00 that night. I was really lucky. The cab dropped me off at the terminal and I was walking into the building when I realized my phone was no longer clipped to my belt. Luckily the cab had stopped for a stop sign and I manged to grab it before he left - phew! Anyways - this weekend will be spent cleaning up the house - the Mrs. is coming home next weekend after 5 weeks in rehab and I'd like her to feel welcome... - hopefully things will be better this time around...

It was over 100 each day - but better than the 116 it hit the last time I was there. Interestingly enough, one of my colleagues asked me if I'd be interested in working for him, but my first reaction was "It's too darn hot!". We agreed to talk soon, but they would have to pay me a LOT to move there, as much as I'd love working for him I've lived in the same town most of my life - and 2 miles from the house my dad built in 1948... plus I love winter - and trout fishing!

It's true.. total culture-shock. Born and raised in Ohio... moved down here when I was in my 20's... never looked back. Some pretty fantastic and horrifying stories along the way but suffice it to say that I guess if I hated Texas that much, I would've moved by now. The truly excessive heat only lasts late June thru maybe late Sept.. sometimes little longer, just depends. Rest of the year is actually pretty nice and come Jan, Feb, March.. I feel very fortunate for the mild conditions. I miss the snow... I really do but I know that my love of northern winters is a fickle relationship. What I think that I sincerely miss about the weather up north is the changing of the seasons... winter into spring, summer into fall, and fall into winter. I surely don't miss the hassle and hazards associated with a lot of snow/ ice. I lived up there during the great blizzard of 77-78 and that was simply awesome since I was little and didn't have to worry about things like money, food, digging out, etc. Anyway... no idea why I'm sitting here talking to myself haha. Oh and yea... Austin ain't nothing like it used to be. I despise driving there these days. Just too damned much congestion and horrid drivers.
