WTH? Why on earth would someone batter a guitar with a hammer?
Someone left it and a hammer with a toddler or something?

    Clearly, you're single.

Actually, I wasn't always, and got a young daughter. But I wouldn't leave her alone with a guitar

    Welcome!

It ain't the young'un being referred to...

    What's it weigh?

The last '77 I had was damaged with the neck pulled out of the body. It didn't take a whole lot to fix but it weighed in at 11+ pounds.

I fixed 'er up and then played her for a minute. In the end I just parted her out. There was no visible damage to the body but there was an extra volume route under the guard.

The neck with repaired heal brought $300 and the body brought $360. That was over two years ago. I still have the first and second generation mix of DiMarzio FS1s that it came in it along with all the hardware sans tuners.

If it's a lighter specimen, under 8 pounds, I might go as high as $1000 depending on how it plays and if the rest of the parts are stock. A decent luthier may be able to steam those indentions out some.

I could actually deal with that as is if the price, weight and playability were right by me.

The seller is way off base.

Clean '77s on the 'bay are in the $1800-2200 range. The one pictured is pretty f'n far from clean.

If you're into 70s Strats I'd keep an eye on Reverb.

I wouldn't pay over a grand for it either and it would still have to be under 9 pounds by a large margin. I've had heavy strats in the '70s, '80s and '90s and they were not missed when they left. I actually aim for 7 pounds or less if I can these days, it's easy enough to do. But my days of paying 2, 3 large for a strat are through. I'll build one for far less before I do that again.

Whoever did it must have just warmed up on that Strat. When she found his Goldtop she went to town.
