Heh... I had a good score today. Walked into my local GC; they had a display of the three Squier Classic Vibes: the Jazz, the 50's P, and the 60's P. I noticed straight away that the 60's P was priced at $250, whereas the others were priced at $350. Hmmm... shiny...
I picked it up and played it for a few minutes, and totally dug it immediately. Very nice, classic P-bass tone. I took it up to the counter, and the clerk kind of did a little stutter-step. He said it was mis-tagged, and he'd have to talk to the manager. He came back a few minutes later and said they'd have to honor the tagged price. $100 off? Absolutely.
So, now I'm the proud owner of a Squier Classic Vibe 60's Precision Bass.
What I've done to it so far: I took the tug bar off the right side of the pickguard, and mounted it on the other side, to make a thumb rest, I took the roundwounds off it, and put on a set of Chromes, and I set it up. That's all. And it plays really nice, sounds great, etc. I'm really digging it. I left the cover off the bridge, but I may add it back later.
I may replace the thumb rest later, with a slimmer design rosewood one like I put on my Ibanez, but we'll see. For now, I'm just playing it.
Here's a really bad pic:
