well, there ought to be some people who can tell you excatly waht grit paper to use, but youll have to sand all the Tung oil off down to bare wood first, then surface prep.
Have you considered wipe on Poly on top of the Tung oil finish? it'll be high gloss and protect more than Tru-oil.
I didn't consider using poly, will that have about the same feel as an oiled neck?
Sorry no, I didnt see that you meant neck, I thought you meant body. Well, tru-oil necks dont have that great of a feel IMO- a little sticky . Leastways there isn't much to be gained in terms of feel. Many people like that Satin Urethane feel like on new some newer Strat necks- kind of slick. Poly is sticky.
Wish i knew more.Stick around someone will chime in.

probably better to sand down a bit as you mentioned.

I used 220, 380 then finished with 600.Applied six coats of the Tru-Oil and now it's curing. Looks good so far, see how it feels after the 0000 steel wool...
For my guitar necks onstage,I wipe with a wash rag and then 0000 steel wool.It takes off the nasty sweat boogers and gives a baby-butt feel.
Natural hand oil is the best for a neck,IMHO.My '62 strat neck has the feel.
