    My Strat and Tele

I took take a pic of my Strat and Tele today and decided to post it here-

You've probably heard enough about both of them but in case you haven't-

The Strat is a 2005 Hwy1 that I bought new for $500 delivered with %0 interest financing and a free iPod. I replaced the pickups with my old "unwound" Fralin Vintage Hot set, put a Callaham vintage spaced bridge on it, a USACG 1 piece maple boat neck with 7-1/4"-9-1/2" fretboard and 6105 frets (I sold the original neck for the cost of the USACG neck), Gotoh vintage style tuners and a few other parts. I used Minwax Wipe-On Poly on the neck. I sold the original parts and have invested very little over the original cost of the guitar (unless you count the pickups, which I already owned). It's hardly a "Fender" guitar at all anymore!

The "Tele" is really a "USACG T-Style"- a USACG swamp ash body and USACG 1 piece maple soft "V" neck with a 9-1/2" radius and 6105 frets, a Fralin Blues Special bridge pickup, a Fralin Stock neck pickup, Glendale brass and aluminum saddles (I won these. They sound great), Gotoh vintage style tuners and Fender hardware (all slotted head screws!). I used Minwax Wipe-On Poly on the body and neck. This guitar cost me less than $800 to build with all new parts.

I assembled the Tele 6 years ago. It's held up well!

Very nice pair. The specs on your Tele are almost identical to mine. I'll bet they both play like a dream.

    Re: My Strat and Tele

I couldn't decide whether this should go into the Start or Tele forum.

I figured if most of you were like me you select "New Posts" as soon as you get here and would see it no matter where I put it!

I play the Tele most of all. It's my #1. I spent the first 20 years of my electric playing primarily on Strats then I put the Tele together and, combined with my 5E3 clone, it blew my Strat (a resto-rodded '57 at the time) away. It wasn't until I bought the Hwy and put the USACG neck on it that I picked up a Strat regularly again. Even so, my #2 is a Les Paul.

Whats the radius on those necks. Looks possibly like a compound radius on the Strat- it looks rather flat up there near the body?

    Re: My Strat and Tele

The Tele is a straight 9-1/2" and the Strat is a compound 7-1/4" to 9-1/2" radius.
To tell you the truth, I don't really feel a difference (and I measured them).

These guitars are both wonderfully "playable". I believed what I had heard about a Tele being hard to play until this guitar.

Oh yeah! I love them both.

Nice phtot! Makes me want to get a family shot of the axes I've got.

    Nice guit-planks.

Damned if you guys haven't made me rethink the importance to me of the brand name.
