    Custom painting

So I want to add some cool psychedelic paint to my MIM strat. What kind of paint do I use? I think I'm pretty much going to keep the color it has already, but just add some psychedelic designs to it. I'm going to strip off the poly (just use sandpaper?) first then put a clear coat over. So...yeah, what kind of paint should I use for the designs? Thanks!

Alright you got me totally confused...I'm slow sometimes I thought poly is just for the clear coat right? I'm asking about what kind of paint should I use for all the psychedelic colors and junk. You have to really spell it out for me

You can use whatever you like. I'd use poly. If the original finish is in good shape you can leave it on and paint over it. You'd have to prep it first with a good cleaning with mineral spirits or something.

    dig that! ^^^

i have had good luck painting right over the fender thick poly. i sand it w/ 4-5-600 grit (whatever i can find at HDepot), and prime it w/ krylon (or similar) primer and then just spray it any finish color, then clear coat it a few times.

i'd assume any acrylic paint would work, but i'd also clear coat it afterward.

good luck, and dont 4get, we need pics.

Thank you! This is the kind of answer I was looking for. I'm going to have to practice and come up with some designs before I jump into it.
