Actually, as OA points out, freezing them - especially quickly and at extreme temperatures - could harm them.

My initial take is that this is hype. But there maybe some effect if the enamal wire coating did crack all through the windings and there are now random shorted coils throughout the pickup. Would it sound "better"? Or just different?

I am a bit incredulous at his claim of seeing an 18% increase in output though...

I still love the Callaham steel tremolo blocks though.

I'm still trying to figure out when Buddy had his frozen. I think the Winter Dance Party was a little late.

Knopfler was born in Glasgow but is generally regarded as a Geordie as his parents moved to Newcastle when he was around 7. Geordies are proud to be known as "hard" and often can be seen bare to the waist as spectators at Newcastle's midwinter Soccer matches. I don't think that counts as cryogenically frozen but it can be a bit "nippy"!
