    Re: Waiting.............

Well - I would have taken one of Phantommans creations over this in a heartbeat!

This was a downpayment from a guy buying some equipment from me.......and I thought it looked like a buy. It was actually listed as a scratch and dent, but is completely uncscathed!

    Re: Waiting.............

    Well -

One week - played it about everyday.

Action was great out of the box but I hate bright strings. I put on D'Addarrio 170's Meatier, but still pretty bright. More tension. oringal strings were really a pleasure to play, jsut to bright for me.

    Enter......
A nice set of Chromes......same guage. more tension also, had to re-intonate and setup.

It has gone through puberty and has a much deeper voice. Nice action, straight neck, pickups really sound nice and it playes really well. I really like the neck and for a little over $250, it sounds really good.

I have my Dlx Jazz, P Bass Dlx and this sitting out right now. Jag, other P bass, and two SX basses are in the closet to making room.

To be fair, the Jazz also has Chromes, just a little heavier set. The P Bass Dlx has 9120 Black Nylon wrapped strings....and all are really deep, and bassy.

I will A-B-C them against each other for the week.

Did I mention that I really like the neck on this?

I think they did a nice job on these Classic Vibes. I played a strat also. It was nice. I wanted to hold out for a "real" P bass......this is not bad at all. I think it is a 3rd set bass, just a little lighter, and sounds great. Lets see how that goes.

I will take it out for a run in a week or two and hear it in a bigger room.

I won't be able to make that one.......but........

things will get better. It is a $$ thing......and I am guessing you guys understand.

I am still planning a spring time blues jam down here in the spring.......I think I will open it up to you guys as I get more details.....its more my friend Dave's thing....but he pretty much will let me do whatever I want, as long as I organize it.

We had 30+ Players last time, and about 50-60 total, lots of food, and a GREAT TIME.

Hey - Look at me...I Hijacked my own thread!

    Re: Waiting.............

Chuck, I may try those Basslines in it but frankly, I can't until I try it in a bigger room at least once as-is.

That and of course the Cap - I really want to put a .1mf in it.

    Re: Waiting.............

I would try an .022uf-200v. cap in it. for a little wider tonal variation.

    Re: Waiting.............

i use 500k pots with .047(or .05) caps. sort of the same effect that mmp describes, but with a teeny bit more output.

    Re: Waiting.............

I opened the thing up yesterday......mixed emotions....

Nicely painted cavity, ground to the shielding paint, like I did in the Jag. Mini pots, but they seem nice. green chicklet cap, so-so jack. Routing looks nice enough.

I will try the .1 mf cap first, but if it needs something else, I will consider the suggestions. I did this in my 2 SX basses, when I rewired them and used 250 CTS pots.

I like how they work together - for me anyhow.....

    Re: Waiting.............

i've given up on wanting to be impressed with the innards of guitars i buy. i always open them up and rewire. i have a stash of old switchcraft jacks, they are heavier than the ones they make now, nothing wrong with the new ones, but these seem like they're mil spec or something.

And carve my initials at the same time!

I took the CV to rehearsel last night. I have a littel setup to finish. It is a little high for a night of playing. easy enough to fix.

I always wipe my strings with lemon oil and the fretboard, and love the feeling, plus it takes a little extra bright away from them when they are new *(I am strange like that - don't like that).....
the strings felt sticky well....more like htey had some grip on my fingers....not cool. I will clean them up and try it without.

I have always done this....first time they felt like this.

The bass sounded grat in the mix though. I just hung up on some of the octave stuff..not much on the walks.
