I know you can do bodies, but necks? I actually have almost finished puting sveral coats of Tung oil( Birchwood Casey) on my Maple Strat neck, so I hope the answer is yes.I plan on finishing it out with Birchwood casey Gunstock Sheen.

Yes, but wipe the excess off in five minutes or so. The more you put on the less of it will be absorbed by the wood. You should buff with 0000 steel wool or finer between coats and after the final coat.
An alternative is to use Danish oil. I've used Watco Danish Oil with good results.
Tung oil is not necessarily long lasting. You may from time to time need to redo the neck--not completely but just put on a few coats and buff out.
My 62 strat came to me in 69 with no finish. I used several thin layers of tung oil (don't remember how many) on it and it is still doing just fine 29 years later. Perry is right about wiping the excess and using 0000 steel wool but at least in my case it has lasted having never been redone or buffed except by my hands.
