Removeing vintage tint finish on Tele neck?

    Heres the neck in question;

I bought a Tele body for this neck , but the Tele body is Gloss ash, and does not look good with the vintage tint neck I do not think( I don't actually have it yet, but just judgeing by the pics). Also, the neck looks like the finish was slopily wiped on. Its a good USACG neck though. I would like to know how to remove this varnish, or finish or wahtever it is., Then I will spray some satin poly on it. I guess. Thanks for your help.

I bet it would strip off real easy with regular stripper. I'd just stay away from the dots and scrape those.

I don't want to open a smelly can of worms, but who would put a Fender logo on a headstock that's not even Fender shaped?

That's a weird one. On my screen it looks like there are dots on the neck but they are covered over.

Yeah, I wonder if the person who did the vintage tint finish stained right over the clay dots. I don't know for sure, but I would imagine that they would absorb stain.

Or maybe its just the lighting in the picture - hard to say.

Either that, or they tried to apply dots using something water based.
There's a faint, ghosty, seemingly oversized Fender logo that's semi-transparent too.

jerry- Can you confirm that it's a USACG neck?
For more than one reason, that photo doesn't inspire confidence.
I can't get a clean look at it, even blowing it up in Phtotshop.

I'd redo the body. Do a nice 52 type finish. Refinishing necks can be a pain in the ass.

necks have always been way easier than bodies for me. the little pre-val home depot sprayers work perfect.

    Kiwi wouldn't hide the dots.

Maybe it was sprayed in a humid environment.
If the finished dried milky, it could turn out like that.

It almost looks like it was sprayed with what you'd use to do 52 Butterscotch.
Similar tint, but it's somewhat opaque, rather that transparent, like a typical neck finish.

It could just be that they're MOP dot on maple and the light is just catching them wrong.

Rosewood necks are easy. Sanding and polishing the fretboard on a maple neck with the frets installed is a time consuming PITA. I'd do the body...

I agree with Chris - I've had many a near-tearful frustrated hour trying to strip and refin a maple neck - wishing I'd have just left it - problem is once you start there's no going back and try as you might there's always some stripper that gets under the frets and into the fret slots that almost always causes probs with the refin - it's - as Chris says - a real arse-ache that doesn't necessarily end when you think you've finished...

Hello folks. They are clay dots. He was a bit sneaky about the ebay ad not showing the neck detail in the picture . No matter, I got it cheap enuf( 125.00 w/ grovers) and Its really a nice neck except for the nut-job finish..
I'm expecting the body any day- an American Standard gloss Ash natural body.. I might just throw them together and say "effit".Maybe someday have someone refin them properly if it turns out to be a worthy axe. Thanks for the assistance.
