    chuckles vibe p bass!

so as not to hijack the other thread i started my own. i've been drooling over the new squier classic vibe 60's p bass, and really miss having a standard p. so i got to thinking... pulled out the old craptacular squier p body i had laying in the closet for the past 7 years. it was my first bass and served me well until i snapped the neck off it, long story, we won't get into that. i also had a can of krylon that was close to the classic vibe color. now all i needed was a neck, so i decided to pull the neck off the orange tele bass and use that. my buddy jim wound me up a slightly hot p bass pickup to use.

here how the body looks after 2 coats of primer

and here it is after 2 coats of color

i ain't gonna lie, this is a cheap crappy paint job. i'm no painter and don't have the patience for it. as you can see in the pics, there is a horrendous route in the bridge position... long before i knew routing templates existed... so i'll just make a cover for it.

i'll hopefully have the thing together for wednesday youth group. i've been playing the hell out of my jazz bass and tele basses, but there was part of me that was missing a regular old p. man they're hard to beat, so simple, so awesome! i'll post more pics when i get this thing together.

That's looking good, Chucko. You are the sland, my friend. Often simplicity is the best. Usually it lets you focus on what you're doing rather than on the instrument itself.

    thanks guys!

mark, good to see you around again! i'll shoot ya an email.

i out the neck on it yesterday when i got home from work, just enough time to put it together before youth group. overall i'm pretty pleased, the pickup is a little too hot. that's alright, i'll either unwind it or trade it out for another one.

Looks killer, be cool to slap in an old
tele pickup in the rear to, you could get
a killer sound from both, Seymour Duncan
makes one that really sounds nice

    Re: chuckles vibe p bass!

i was actually trying to get away from that sound, i already have 2 tele basses, one with the quarter pounder (my #1 bass) and another one with the duncan antiquity. i'll have to find a pic but back in the day i used to have a tele bass pup in this guitar. the curved portion of the bridge route is from the tele bass pup, i then tried a jazz bass pup in there after that.

    Those are nice, chuck.

    Are those necks Jazz width?
I assuming the dark neck is a Jazz neck, but the T-style one looks pretty narrow at the nut.

    update:

put a vintage wound p pup in it... and it freakin kills! love it, love it, love it! i have to get another pic up of it. i took a figurine i had of a gnome with a flute and stuffed it in the open route and then epoxied over it. my little "guardian angel" if you will.

So, in this case the J could stand for Janice, rather than Jazz?

So, Jacquelyn has a white beard?
Can't say I was expecting that.
Some kind of horgnomal condition, I guess.

    The paintjob looks great, chuck.

    Re: chuckles vibe p bass!

so a bug bit me and i rebuilt this bass with a different body. the squier body had a neck route bigger than the neck, i couldn't live with that, so i changed it up. i took the other p body out of the hideout and mounted everything to that. so this is what she look likes:

    and the whole shebangabang:

i like this setup better, the other body i'm just going to hang on the wall. sentimental reasons. the neck is nice and tight.
