    lighter fluid

So my understanding is that you can use lighter fluid (which contains naptha?) to clean guitars? Is it safe to use on guitars with polyurethane, polyester, and nitrocellulose finishes (I have all three)? What other suggestions do you have? I guess I could just go to musiciansfriend and find some good cleaner/polish. Thanks!

Naptha is what the stuff is & yes it is safe for all three finishes.
Just make sure you are using it w/a soft, clean cotton cloth, like an old diaper. Use the polish afterwards.

71818 is right... but I would not use the lighter fluid I would buy a quart of naptha cheaper and "pure" less odor etc. I used it on my Les Paul Special when I bought it. The guitar had been in a smoker home and the odor had attached itself to the finish. I cleaned it with the naptha (as per 71818's advice years ago) and kept it on a stand... cleaned it twice then polished with Gibson polish and it was a near virgin :lol

you can also buy new diapers at any auto store etc... :)

Yeah, an old diaper. Just make sure you WASH it first.
Many diaper services will sell you bundles of clean & sterile used diapers.

ronsonol and zippo lighter fluid work just fine, both can be bought from a liqour/quikee mart. and yes, they are safe to use on any type of finish.
