    strat/tele tuners for nylon strings?

    Hi-
I'm making a hollow nylon string tele, and can't find the proper tuning machines.
All of the standard six inline tuners have metal posts, which could break the nylon.
I've thought about wrapping the part of the string that contacts the tuner in tubing, to protect it from the sharp metal contact point.
I'd prefer to find the right tuner though?
ANyone have any idea where to get these?
I guess basically a tuner to fit a tele, with a plastic shaft.
I've tried all the suppliers, no help.
Tried calling Sperzel too, as they make the tuners for the Spanish Fly by Ken Parker, but they haven't returned any calls.
Please let me know, what you know.
    Thanks,
    Terry

Why not try a standard steel-string tuner an' stick a piece of heat-shrink tubing over the shaft then hit it with a hair dryer to snug it down over the post? There'll be no actual string-to-shaft contact and the tuner itself should yield better stability than one with plastic or wood parts.

    Just a thought......

    great idea!
i actually have some right here i got at home depot.
that's at the top of the list if i can't find an actual tuner for this.
the next step though is what tuner?
i saw guitar fetish has schaller style with the two holes at 90o angles.
Those may be good, I really want something very stable, and I'm worried the kluson style won't fair well with nylon.
    any suggestions helpful.
    thanks,
    terry

You're prolly right......a split-shaft post would not be my first choice for a nylon-string guitar. A conventional Schaller or a Grover might do nicely. I think the locking Sperzels with backlash adjustment would be a bit of "overkill".

    Best of luck.

    yeah, prob the schallers.
i'm afraid anything with a locking mechanism would put to much pressure on the nylon when you tighten the lock, and cause breakage.
I really considered it, but I kept thinking about all the pressure ont the string from the lock.
I think the double hole posts would be cool, I hope.
