    +1!

That's a late '60s Tele, too, right? '68 or '69? Killer combination there!

Technically, it's the Brown tremolo, but hey, it's all good.

Actually, both the blonde 6G8 Twin and the blonde 6G14 Showman had the "brown" (harmonic) tremolo before switching to the opto-isolator circuit when these amps morphed into their respective AB763 blackface incarnations.

Yes, quite true. I just had the Blonde Twin/Showman in mind when I was thinking on that as Phantomman mentioned.

Regardless, I am definitely keeping this in mind. I need a higher powered head and that Vibroverb with that tremolo in head form would be killer.....

Ahh...Encyclopedia Phantom strikes again. I should have clarified that my BFVV build has the 6G16 Brown Vibroverb bias-vary tremolo.

I tell you what, though, the 3-tube harmonic tremolo is a thing of beauty, but takes all them extra tubes and you do away with reverb. Had to have reverb!

Re: Whats everyone playing them tele's thru

Yeah, I guess using the color (period) of the amp to refer to the tremolo is misleading.....AFAIK there were three used in different times and in some amps across the eras:

Original Brown (Power Tube Grid Bias Tremolo) but also used in BF Princeton, Princeton Reverb and Vibro Champ as well as Blonde Tremolux

Multi Tube Split Signal Tremolo used in Brown and Blonde Professional Amps (Twin, Showman, Bandmaster etc.)

Photocell Tremolo - BF amps except Princeton, Princeton Reverb and Vibro Champ

    I Ain't no expert though.....

    Jah, mine's the "photocell".
Finding just the exact right tubes goes a long way to making it sound good.

I hardly ever use vibrato anyhow.
I'm almost to the point where I'm using the "Normal" channel a bit more.

    Should I seek help?

Correct. Bias-vary trem is what was used in the tweeds too.
The Vibrasonic, Super, Concert, Pro, Twin, Showman and Bandmaster of 60-63 (Brown or Blonde cab depending) all share the same basic circuit (though some of the really early Twins and Vibrasonics differ a bit, the early Twins being the last Fenders with the 68K input resistors mounted on the board rather than on the jack a la BF specs). They all have the wonderful trem with a presence control, I'm not sure there's ever been a better combination. I think a brown Super or 1960 3x10" Bandmaster with a Fender reverb tank would be my ultimate setup. As it is I get by with my blonde Twin!

Re: Whats everyone playing them tele's thru

By the way, when I made the comment, I was thinking of Grid Bias Tremolo as the coolest sound I ever heard in a tremolo was a true Blonde Tremolux....way cool. Now Zeiss' Blonde is awesome also and those surfers swear by the multi tube as tremolo heaven.....

I had forgotten that the other Professional and Blondes had the multi tube solution which sounds killer but AFAIK would be next to impossible to combine with reverb in an amp due to the amount of tubes that would be present.....

That said, NTs amp as a BF with the Grid Bias Tremolo must sound freakin' awesome....great combination of things from different eras of Leo's strokes of creativity

You could do it... If you had a big chassis like a Twin's you could probably make it work. The earliest three tube trems left one half of a 12AX7 unused so you could use that for reverb recovery and you'd only need to add one 12AT7 as a reverb driver and the transformer to get a fully functioning BF 'verb in there too.

I've posted this clip before, but just listen to that trem!

Yep, I'd need a few stiff drinks before I added another preamp socket to my '60 Twin though!
I have had thoughts of converting my DR to a 35W blonde amp with harmonic trem, BF reverb in a 1x12" package...

I believe so but I am not a tech, I do know the break up from that amp is awesome and the old guy in the store, my age, said it was due to the smaller OT.

Re: Whats everyone playing them tele's thru

There were two different OTs used in the various models of the Tremolux circa '60-'63, the later ones using the same OT as the BF AB763 model (the 125A6A) so it could be right. I don't know what size the original blonde Tremolux OT (45217) was.

Re: Whats everyone playing them tele's thru

The first amp I bought in my teens was a little 15W Bird "Golden Eagle" 2/15 combo made in around 1963.
    http://www.vintagehofner.co.uk/brita...d/15eagle.html
It had a tremolo, reverb and 3 small oval ELAC speakers, which sounded surprisingly good, but to be honest the tone controls didn't do much. I ended up trading it to my local luthier for something as it was becoming unreliable!
That is what I would LIKE to play my CV Tele through. It just smacked of the 60's!
However, I'm playing it through my Blackstar 5 combo which is giving me a good approximation of Tweed or Marshall 18W tones depending on the settings, so no complaints there.

When You point your finger 'cause your plan fell through, you've got 3 more fingers pointing back at you.

    Oooooo...a drip-edge PR!

I bet that Allen is killer, too. I love the iron he sells (same as he uses in his kits/amps) and have used them a couple of times now...sounds great every time.

The Allen does indeed sound great. It's my main gigging amp whereas the PR is the 'grab-n-go' small gig/jam amp.

This is my main setup: Super Sonic or Custom built and pedal board.

The DRRI was completely rebuilt by a local amp guru - point to point, channel 1 black face fender, channel 2 dumble circuit. My first choice of amps. Both amps have scumback speakers.

The pedal board = TU2 tuner, Crybaby, Keeley modded 808, Keeley Katana, TRex Replica delay and Option 5 Destination Rotation Single.

And my Fender Family: Left to right California Series Strat with Lindy Fralin pups, graphite saddles, callahan block and locking tuners; Am. Deluxe Strat with Kinman Blues and harness, graphite saddles, callahan block; AVRI 52 stone stock
