Well, the big jam was lightly attended, but those of us who made it had a great time! I'll post phtots in a day or two.

    You were there GJ?

I think the Windmill is a better venue for a jam. While the bike museum is a very cool place, Stratford is closer for many people. It's about the same distance for me here, but there isn't many of us up in your neck of the woods. At least we got to put a couple more faces to the usernames!

It was good for me - only a mile away. It made it easy for people staying here from out of town. Sorry you couldn't make it Kap'n - we were looking forward to seeing you again. Heck _ I actually got up there with my electric guitar and jammed with the host and Frank Johnson and his buddy Jimmy - that guy is one terrific guy and a hell of a drummer!

I'm sorry I missed it to. I'm determined not to die without attending one of those jams (not that I'm dying, I think). Please post pictures soon!

Re: New Englanders - Big Jam coming!!!

Having met and spent some time on two occasions with the host of the jam my son and I plan to attend a New England Jam some time for sure... We will coordinate with you mgade - we now are in South FL ... but if you come to the US for a jam you should plan to come through this way and spend some time and we'll all fly up together ... sounds like a plan right?
I am looking forward to hearing some jam stories and seeing a few pics... some great folks for sure

Re: New Englanders - Big Jam coming!!!

    well,

I had a great time. It started with steaks about the size of a shoebox......potatoes as big as your foot and fresh corn on the cob that burst on impact and had flavor out of this world! What an Awsome dinner, on the deck with Mr. and Mrs junkie ! I think Miles enjoyed it too - because most conversation stopped until the food was gone!

We jammed, we ate, we laughed and then we Jammed! My friend Jimmy really enoyed playing with you guys, and so did I. It was great that the rain held off.

I tried to record some of it....and did get a few useable clips, but most of it clipped out from the bass drum......I think I had it too close, or the concrete floor was too reflective.

at any rate, i was sorry to not have an opportunity to meet more people, but glad for the ones I did!

Frank was great to play with. Bob was great to play with , the hosts and host players, everyone - I mean how much better could it have been? I got to jam with Nick - and I have to say - we played a great set!

I want to see more pics...........

Hey! It was great jamming with you and your buddy Jim!! I can't wait to see some pics and hear some clips. I would not mind hearing the clipped ones anyway, just to hear them...

By the way, those of you who don't already know, Frank and gibsonjunkie look exactly like thier avatars!! Me too...

TeleBob's got a Rickenbacker? Well I'll be damned!

(now there's a guy that can play the hell out of any guitar you give him)

Nice to see Nick with an electric guitar...that's a first for me!

That was first for me, too. Bob made me get up there and play - even made me do a solo...

That is his hand-built "RickenRocker" - he made it out of a chunk of Black Walnut. He has a maple one, too. They are works of art (sound darn good, too).

Let me guess - more 'player-friendly' neck profile, too...I remember he could never 'get on' with the standard Ric neck. But then again, a player of his caliber isn't just strumming cowboy chords either.

He even approached them about having them build one with a bigger neck, but they laughed at him... so he built his own. They are both beauties.

I've seen those homemade Ricks before, but I always like seeing 'em.

Who's that with the Ovation solidbody? I've always liked that design. As radical as it is, it's always struck me as very organic and comfortable looking. I'd like to have one someday, if only because I've been intrigued by it pretty much since I started playing.

That was Jim - the guy who actually donated the shop for the day. That Breadwinner was pretty sweet. I actually had one back in college and stupidly sold it in 1980. It was a great guitar. He actually has a pretty cool collection of unique guitars.

A friend of mine actually designed the Breadwinner for Ovation. He was in the marketing division at the time and drew it the original scetches for it. He isn't a player and he doesn't own one either.

That sounds bad, but then again, Leo Fender wasn't a player either. I'm sure he owned a few Fender guitars anyway.

Good pics from the jam. Thanks Nick.

That's amazing! It's the sort of thing you'd expect someone to say about a bad design: "Oh, yeah -- that was designed by some marketing guy who didn't even play guitar." Heh. But it's always struck me as a wonderful design. I've never played one, so maybe the impressions I have are wrong, but like I said, it really strikes me as very cool looking and comfortable looking. Radical, but organic.

Your friend must have had hidden depths as a designer. Hey -- I've worked in marketing departments, so I know we're not all shallow and venal souls.

I didn't appreciate how good a guitar it was until years later. I promised myself I'd never sell another guitar after that one.

(it was a bit heavy, more or less in Les Paul territory)

Heh. I wouldn't have guessed it was heavy. But as long as a guitar is balanced, I don't worry a lot about weight. My first "real" guitar was a 10 lb. Les Paul Custom, and I gigged with it a lot, so "heavy" is relative for me. I always get a chuckle when I see someone complaining about a 9 lb. Strat. Get a wider strap and suck it up!
