    Re: More cosmetic fun!

It's an awesome guitar. To be honest I really liked it with Strat knobs but to each his own and all that.
Glad you dig it! That's the most important thing in the work!

I've a strat ready for finishing, I might try that rub-on thing... Is it fairly easily accomplished?

Any chance of some nice pics with the 'Caster and the Prince? I could do with a new desktop background!

    All the best,
    Tommy.

I'm waiting patiently for the Warmoth Gravity Jim Signature Zencaster. A painstaking replica of the most coveted guitar on The Fender Forum!

I just PhotoShopped black pickups covers on it and I prefer the white look for the yen yang of it.

I think the guitar is dialed in.

    uh oh...

The knob shape needs work and the dots need to be the same material as the position markers.

ziess, it's incredibly easy. Sand the guitar real smooth (the hard part)... apply several coats of Watco Danish oil (rubbing it in and wiping it down as you go)... top coat it with beeswax.

That's it. You're done in like two days. After that, apply beeswax once a month for the first year, every couple-three months after that... eventually the finish cures and you only need to wax it a couple times a year. It just gets prettier with time.

I'll work on a desktop pic one of these days.

eli, I don't know about "most coveted." Perhaps "most over-exposed." :)

    Wilko, you're evil.

    I think i'll try it!
What've you got on the neck? I like a smoooooooth neck finish so I might just go for clear laquer.

I've got a spare old stripped strat body and neck lying in the garage (the cold and damp helps the tone, right?) so I might do that tomorrow!

Could someone post a photshop pic. of how the 'Zen" would look with white Strat knobs? Just curious, very.

lame. The balance goes way too "electric"

I had white knobs when I first assembled it, and got rid of them right away. It wants black knobs. But I like the wordless/numberless thing it's got now a lot.

ziess, the neck was finished by Warmoth in a satin poly (which has been polished to a ultra smooth gloss by playing it)... but spray cans or a wpie on poly would probably work just fine.

How did you do the decal? Ink jet?

Yep, it's one of those hobby shop decal kits that you print on an inkjet, seal with the spray that comes with it, and then apply like a waterslide decal. It's my signature, Adobe Illustratored-ed into Fedner-y logoness by my son Aiden.

Because you asked for it (and because a snowstorm really slowed things down around Gravity) I took a "wallpaper" shot of the Z-caster and Prince G this morning. I'm no Phtotweboramark, but it looks nice on my computer! Here's a half-sized sample version:

And here's a link to the big one (1280x1024):

Those knobs really make the guitar. I love em. I might have to put them on mine. Does the place you got them from sell white or cream knobs?
