Now you need mahogany pickup covers and you're SET!

    "...pray do not imagine that those who make the noise are the only inhabitants of the field;
that, of course, they are many in number; or that, after all, they are other than the little,
shriveled, meagre, hopping, though loud and troublesome, insects of the hour."

But then I'm done. Fretting over details like this makes me a little tired.

Straight ebony cylinders with a little dot...that sounds even better. Much better, even.

Of course, you're only going to make us want your guitar even more.

I wonder how the knobs off the Vibrolux Reverb Custom would look. John Mayer strat has them on it. I like them.

Yeah, dang it... it's gonna have to be the ebony barrels, isn't it?

Well, I couldn't tell until I did it. It's been over a decade years since I was an agency creative director, and my pre-visualization skills are shot.

    Those are purty.

BTW, I decided to go for the ebony knobs, and they should be here tomorrow or Friday... the bubinga skirted knobs will be offered as a gift to the first TFF'r who asks for them!

You might consider some QParts knobs... you can get them with ebony wood inserts.

    Re: More cosmetic fun!

I just noticed edenahus no longer offers the expensive wood burled gaurd that you had once considered. That would have looked boss. I vote for a 3 ply black guard, or REAL ebony if you ever find one, then those knobs on there would look stud.

    Re: More cosmetic fun!

Jerry, the black pearl is an important part of the guitar, for visual and sentimental reasons... it was chosen by Lisa and son Noah, and it has to stay. Likewise the white pickup covers, which are a big part of how it looks for me (besides, the EMG SV's don't have removeable covers... they can't be changed even if I wanted to).

So, no more wood! Wilko's oh-so-subtle nudge (read: slap in the chops) with the Garcia thing woke me up from my THC dream.

I'm installing these ebony barrel knobs with the white dot, and if that doesn't cook, I'm going right back to the stock Fender knobs.

Soon, there will be one more picture of this guitar to see... a picture that I swear on my mother's not-yet-occupied grave that will be the absolute last makeover for the Z-caster.

hipppiebob, if you want the bubingas, drop me an e-mail.

Now, and I am just throwing it out there.
What about a clear acrylic pick guard shielded in some areas with copper foil?
My (super-fantastic-uber-colossal-mojo-quadrupling clear pick guard) idea not withstanding, the guitar looks beautiful and you play it well.

I know you weren't going to go all hippie on it, and that you know enough of the Zen to keep the balance right. I was certainly bustin' your chops with the Garcia thing.

Wood is part of the balance, as is plastic and metal. It is an electric guitar. You know it needs a plastic pickguard. Pickups are electrical devices, so wood is not natural there.

The story of your wife and son on the guard and pickups covers is all you need.

That is a cool guitar being so closely tied to your input.

    gotta love it.

Well, this is it, really, finally it.

Hippiebob gets the bub knobs, and the Z-caster gets what it really wanted.

Awww, yeah. Clean, numberless, unobtrusive, and a little white indicator dot that's the very soul of Zen.

All done. The Zencaster is finished, the Prince Guatama is perfect.

The white p'ups / ebony knobs echo the Yin Yang idea.

That is beautiful. A real class act.

    Is that an ebony fretboard?

I had to use shoes and handbag for her (everyone knows carpet and drapes refers to something else... and we can't see that 'cause the covers are on)

That really does cook! I never realised just how important a thing like knobs can be visually.I think that really balances out the guitars and Im a fan of that pickgaurd after all. One thing though. I dont like barrel knobs on a strat cause they stick up to high for me, but hopefully you wont have any issues .Yeah, if those knobs do not work, before you give up on the ebony, QParts, as someone mentioned has some black metal strat style knobs with ebony top.
If you really are just plain done, than i am the knob and disregard this message.
