    Project suggestion....

I've had a gutted Peavey guitar head in my basement for years. Chassis, cab and transformers.

    It's set up for 6 x 6L6GC, or 150 Watts.

Who the hell needs that kind of power for a guitar?

I've held onto it, thinking, "I'm gonna build a bass amp out of it some day."

Anybody have suggestions for an old school amp to try to emulate? A baby-SVT isn't a likely candidate, because it has inductors in the tone circuit.

the baby svt sounds like a cool project. i have a "nomad" that uses 6L6's, it's called the "bass 300", no idea why cause it's probably only 125 watts? between the nomad and my V4B, i can get the tones i want. one day i think i'll get a hiwatt or orange bass head for something a little different.

i think a hi-power flip top would be uber badass...and i mean UBER!

That sounds like a good idea. Six cathode biased 6L6's....

If I recall, the difference between a HiWatt dr103 anf the bass amp was in the tone circuit
do I look like I know what I'm doing?

No conclusion yet. It's still a 'project in the future' but I'm thinking a fliptop might be in order.

I'm suspecting though that I might need to modify the phase inverter to drive six 6L6's.
