    What color is my bass?

I have a 1996 American Deluxe Precision, painted in a metallic gold color... a light gold, with a faded quality, almost as silvery as it is gold.

This isn't Shoreline, right? Is i called "Firemist Gold?" (It certainly doesn't look like the FIremist Gold from the 50s, but you know how they reuse names over time....) Or is "Shoreline" the name they resued for a lighter gold in the 90s?

I did some web searching and can't find a clue. Any you guys know?

Re: What color is my bass?

Someone was describing the colour of an "Inca Silver" Strat recently... they were puzzled by the golden hue. I was thinking it might be the effect of clear-coat yellowing.

Cool chart.... don't know how I failed to find that.

It seems my bass IS, in fact, Shoreline Gold. I knew about Firemist, and I thoguht there was a darker gold called Shoreline, but it's not...it's AZTEC Gold (just like Inca Silver, get it?). Now that i know there are three metallic golds, it makes sense.

It's so purty... Shoreline Gold, white pearl guard, maple fingerboard, and that streamlined Pecision Deluxe shape... man, I love it.

So, this bass is Shoreline Gold and now I won't sound stupid describing it to other people. :) Well, no stupider than usual, anyway.

    No prob... here it is.....

It's a '96, stock except for the P-style pup which is now a Fender "Original" (or "'62"), which really improved the instrurment quite a bit.

Is the body norrowed, or streched out, or something?
The overall effect is that it looks really lo-o-o-o-ong.

    It sure is purty though.

Anemone will give you a shiner.

Scat could give you a puffer.

    Or one of these.

Back when I was in college I wantedto be a bass player so I could shed my cephalopod-nature and be hippocampus.

    I failed.

I know that station. They showed old and crusty stuff like that 24/7. It was a real crust-station, in fact.

That reminds me of a very funny, much overlooked film Nightshift with Micheal Keaton and Henry Winkler:

Bill: What if you mix the mayonnaise in the can, WITH the tunafish? Or... hold it! Chuck! I got it! Take LIVE tuna fish, and FEED 'em mayonnaise! Oh this is great.
    [speaks into tape recorder]
    Bill: Call Starkist!
