    I finally bought a Tele!!!

I'm not sure why I've waited this long to get one. I guess I've always thought I'd like Strats more but after two days with this guitar I can safely say that I like it more than any Strat I've played or owned. Yeah, I know they're different and they do different things and I'm not selling my Strat but I find as a whole the Tele seems more useable.

This was my first internet purchase and I was sweating it from the day I sent off the money order. Luckily the guy I bought it from was top notch, sending it out, well packed, the same day he received the money. He described it well and it sounds and plays exactly like I thought it would, maybe even better.

It's a '62 AVRI, I had my eyes set on a Surf Green one but when this one came up used I couldn't pass it up. The black is classy don't ya think? He had rewired it modern and added a set of brass saddles. Short of that it's completely stock and I think it's going to stay that way. I sort wanted to try out a set of Fralin Tele pickups but I don't see myself doing it, the guitar sounds great across all three switching positions.

    Finally, some pics!

Dude, that is WAY prettier than Surf Green. One of the nicest looking Teles ever, a true classic.

Re: I finally bought a Tele!!!

That's a sweet looking Tele. I'm not generally a big fan of binding on a Tele, but in this case I can't imagine it any other way. It just looks right. Also the rosewood neck on the black body, that's beautiful. I think you got a nice score, at whatever price. I would have found that one hard to let go.

At times I find myself in agreement with you on the Tele vs Strat opinion, and then later find my opinion reversed. Right now, I'm back in the Tele camp. I still love Strats though.

I must admit that I am not a fan of black Tele's in general but with that white body binding and W/B/W guard, I'm sold!! Congrats.... LB.

Wow...good thing you didn't get a green one. OR, why don't you get the green one if you really want it and give that black one to me? Sounds good.

Stop over and play it. I'm only about 20 minutes north of U of D on 896.

I've played danged near everything, andther is just a certain magic to a Tele that no other guitar can match. Welcome to the brotherhood!

I completely understand your inability to resist purchasing this Tele and am envious of your choice.

It's an American Vintage Reissue. They used to offer more than the 3 current colors up until this year. Here's a link to it on Fenders site.

Re: I finally bought a Tele!!!

I can relate. I have a 1968 black Esquire Custom with cream binding. The neck is maple (from a 1952 Tele). As sound goes, it is not my favorite (I find most late 60's tele/esquire lead pickups a bit shrill and thin). What keeps me from moving it is the look. The maple neck on a jet black body with a cream border is just so fine!

Honestly, both Fender and MF should use your pics on their websites. I've seen that model several times and thought, "Meh."

Looking at your shots I have to agree with the others--it's fantastic looking. Fender needs to shoot it at an angle so you get the true effect of that binding and W/B/W guard.

    Very nice score!

Thanks again for the kind comments. I'm still loving this guitar, after I bought it my constant need for something new completely went away. It might only be for a short time but I'll take it.

Dave, your pic isn't showing up, it's just a red X.

I too am a sucker for binding on a tele, my favorite guitar is a bound sunburst tele. Congratulations, a very nice score.

I know I said I wasn't go to change anything but I couldn't fight the urge to grab a Fralin Blues Special bridge pickup last night.

I'm not sure when it'll make it into the guitar but I can't wait to hear the sound difference. The stock pickup measures 6.66k and the Fralin is 7.07k. Hopefully it'll thicken the bridge a touch but not too much.

I'm definitely looking for more rock than twang, just not too much rock. I don't want it to get muddy but I've yet to put a Fralin in anything and have it become muddy.

Frank, I originally looked up and down for one in Seafoam but when I stumbled across this one in nearly mint condition used, I couldn't pass it up.
