MXR Phase 90 Vintage Block PROBLEM!!!HELP!!!

Hello all, I need some expert advise here. I just received a pedal i bought from ebay, a vintage phase 90 block letter, is the old one that has almost the same circuit as the script logo vintage.

Well at first when I plugged it I got a creame sound but I could bearly feel , hear the effect. After a while got my ear to it and herd it but is so subtle or no noticeble that you can hear the difference much.

Is this pedal supposed to be like this, gives me a nice sound but no too much phaser...

    help!

There is probably a trim pot on the inside that mixes the normal and phase-shifted sound. Note where it is now, and try turning it, and see if it improves.

Otherwise, somebody sold you a dud. The sound should be unmistakable.

Does it looks something like this?

If so, I'd note exactly where it is, and try turning it one way or the other and see if the sound improves. If it doesn't, put it back where it was, and return it.

Yep. That should be the wet/dry mixer. You should be able to adjust it, and find the maximum "swirl."

I turned it and did not feel the diference, almost a whole turn, how much should I turn it.

I talked to the owner and he said he does not sell junk, he checked it before and also said this is not an in you face effect, y does no take over the sound.

    Ill send some videos.

Less intense that I would have guessed, but it seems to be working.

It's been decades since I used one but that sounds a bit weak from what I recall it sounding like.

Did the seller offer to take it back? If not maybe you can put it back on EBay if you're not happy with it?

I had a Phase 90 years ago, and it certainly wasnt as subtle as the recorded clips you posted.

If nothing happens with the trim pot, I cant get much difference when i turn it everywhere, I may say no difference, what else can it be?

I think I have fixed the pedal, dont know how but Ill send the videos.
I removed the grey foam , and with a screwdriver i took off all the sticky stuff left by the foam and also took out all the black stickiness from the connection so the signal will flow better, maybe this was it, I dont know but know it seems to work!

Here's a demo of how it should sound.

Yeah, the foam does tend to degrade over time. You do need something to keep the circuit board from contacting the case and possibly short-circuiting to it.

I would be surprised if that was really the problem though. More likely a loose wire or solder joint that wasn't making good contact until you moved some things around. If the problem comes back, I would start looking closely at the wires as a possible culprit.
