Amp Drops Power, and Smell Smokey, but new tubes?!?!?!?

OK, I ordered the tubes from thetubestore.com, and thetubedepot.com, two reputable stores, and completely retubed my Fender "The Twin" amplifier. I was playing it tonight, and I noticed, when I would turn the gain knob on the distortion channel, it would drop out a little. Also during playing, I would experience dropouts, they were subtle and short, but noticeable to me.

There was also a lot of noise, light hiss, perhaps even a hum. It was constant and loud.

So I look at the tubes int he back. Two of the power tubes are glowing super hot. Two are just so so. The amp smelled like it was burning, but there was no smoke. I turned the amp off and played the studio amp instead.

These symptoms, as far as I'm aware are consistent with bad power tubes, however, I just retubed them all!!! THey are matched quads and I paid a hefty fee for them. So I'm assuming it's not the tubes.

Anybody have any suggestions? Rebias the power tube section? I just don' tknow, and I'm worried. Thanks guys.

Either the tubes weren't a matched quad, or you lost bias on a pair of tubes.

In any case, those two super hot tubes are probably toast.

Get the amp looked at by a pro.

Those tubes weren't JJ's by chance, were they?
