when it rains it pours (jazz bass content)

after hijacking frankjohnson's thread i figured i'd start my own.

so i'm moving out of the apartment i'm in and into a duplex that my parent's own, as a sort of "grounds keeper". they rent to mostly older individuals and my uncle used to live there and do what i'm going to be doing. he used to play bass back in the day and still has his 70's j bass. when i was helping him move he mentioned selling it and i told him i'd buy it from him, he said he'd think about it. he gave me a call the other day and said he left me a "little something to look after", which turned out to be a big rectangular tweed case sitting in the back bedroom...suwheet!

a different day i was over at my amptech's house dropping off some amps when he said, "i have something for you, i know you like to fiddle with guitars" and he procedes to pull out a set of pups out of a 68 j bass... i went to my parents house and was going through my closet and pulled out a warmoth j bass neck i forgot i had... then i was thinking, all i need is a body...so i bought one of these (same color, only it's a standard j bass in alder) http://www.warmoth.com/paint/paint.c...e_smallapricot which should be here in 4-6 weeks

Ok - You don't really Suck - but damn you!

I am int eh process of bartaring some old parts for a Purple PJ body, I am told it is MIJ.......

I have a bridge and pickups........will need guts, and a pickguard and one of those neck things........

    (Oh.....is this a hijack?)

I haven't seen it yet, and I don't think I will like the color as much as that tangerine.......

but I thought I would share that.....

Will a P or J fit the pocket of the PJ I wonder......what do you think?

yeah, the necks are interchangable. just the neck profile on the j is skinnier as you know. heels wise they are exactly the same. both my tele basses have j neck profiles. as on account of my girl sized hands...

i just got an email notification that my body and pickguard have shipped out from warmoth...awesome. usually takes about 3 days!

That's good to know. I kinda' thought that was the deal.
After dorking around with some J's and P's, and the Hoppus and Dirnts, I've decided I like the sound of the P, but have a much easier time playing the J neck.
At some point I'll probably piece something together.

The Apricot's gonna' look cool, chuck.
    What color guard?

i did the same thing we did on the dumbasstelecaster just a single ply gloss black guard. between the sparkle paint job and big chrome plate i thought it would need something to mellow it out a bit and not be too gaudy.

Sweet deal, Chucko! I'm wanting a Jazz Bass myself.

BTW, Nice Kinky quote in your sig...did you vote for him in the last TX Governor's race?
    "...pray do not imagine that those who make the noise are the only inhabitants of the field;
that, of course, they are many in number; or that, after all, they are other than the little,
shriveled, meagre, hopping, though loud and troublesome, insects of the hour."

Re: when it rains it pours (jazz bass content)

I am a longtime fan of fender basses, but am totally confused as to what to get. I like the snappy grind of the Marcus Miller bass, but don't want 'someone else's bass' if you know what I mean.

Should I build my own Warmoth and get a BadAss Bridge or try to find a vintage instrument? Any thoughts?

Re: when it rains it pours (jazz bass content)

why not just get a standard jazz bass and then customize it to your liking? i do that sometimes, sometimes i build them. if money is an issue then going warmoth isn't really going to be cheaper.

Good Call on sending them to Lindy. He does fantastic work. Is he going to try to repair yours, or just rewind them. It would be cool if he could just fix them if they are fixable w/o a rewind. His J-Bass pickups are the stuff!!

it's up to him. i don't really know what's wrong with them. i'll let him decide which is the best route to go. i've heard quite a few of his pups and like them a lot. so i have a lot of faith in his work.
