    Fat Finger!

I posted this on the LPF, thought maybe someone here would be interested...

I just picked one up when I was dropping my Tele off at my tech's... holy crap! I would have never thought it would have made such a difference. Increased sustain... more presence... a more "full" sound... the notes just pop. The only downside is having it clamped to my headstock. Kinda unsightly. It does help balance my bottom-heavy Les Paul a little. I think I'm gonna try to find an old Fathead, which bolts to the back of the headstock. My tech said Groove Tubes was going to start making them again, but she didn't know when.

    It's funny.

Plenty of people curse modern tuning heads and their added weight compared to Klusons, saying they ruin the tone of their instruments.
    Several guitars in different colors
    Things to make them fuzzy
    Things to make them louder
    orange picks

Why stop with attaching a little thingy,
when you go just go for the final solution?

    Re: Fat Finger!

I replied there that I put one that I bought at GC for $1 on my Jazz Bass.
    It sounds great!

    Ugly as hell though!

I replaced the diecast tuners on both my Strat and my Les Paul with stamed steel Kluson type tuners and didn't notice a very big difference in sound!

    From the description on MF:

Just clamp the Fat Finger on to the headstock of any stringed instrument. It adds mass to the weak end of the instrument, so strings ring out longer, louder, and with more balance. Dead spots can be tuned out simply by changing the point of contact to the headstock. The results are instant and impressive.
Maybe tone is in the Klusons?

    It's a glorified C-clamp.
I think a C-clamp would be more manly.
Chicks dig musician/creative types who also prove to be handy.

I remember seeing those things that were like a plate that fit on the back of your headstock, under the tuners, I think.
    Was that the Fathead?
They compared it to pressing the end of the headstock against a wall while you played. I ried that, since it was free and required no tools.
It didn't seem to make the guitar itself any louder or more resonant. It made the wall broadcast the vibration from the headstock. That's where I heard it.
And if memory serves me, my bathroom wall had some dead spots.

I've seen an unplugged electric bass guitar amplified by a door like that.

Neo, you need to install some Kluson bathroom fixtures.

Or you could just stick a Keyser capo in there.

I wouldn't have paid $5 for the Fat Finger, but for a buck it's a cool experiment.
